i agree with a lot that has been said but i want some things from the orignal quake i want beasts that scare the s@#% out of you when they approach.... playing it late at night probably with ur headphones on and hearing something that makes you wish that it has not noticed you... im not talking about loud deafening sounds im talking about shamblers (even tho they were pretty loud) and fiend style yells and wails (in strogg style ofcourse).

I don't think I'm too interested in the original Quake monsters, but I do partially agree that Quake IV needs something that Quake 2 didn't have: Fear.

I want the monsters to be intimidating and frightening. But then again, I'm not interested in it being too much like Doom 3.
Doom 3 is gonna be all about terror, so if you're more of a Quake 1 fan, I suggest that you look into Doom 3 for that kind of thing - namely the #### Knight in Doom 3 is very similar to the Quake 1 Shambler as far as behaviour and overall appearance goes. Only the HK is more terrfying imo :-]

In QIV, the main emphasis should be the war atmosphere - make it seem like there's something grand big going on while you fight for your own survival, but it should also have some darkness and some scary beasts crawling or jumping at you from the dark.
I was hoping that Raven would expand a bit on the mutant from Quake 2 and make this thing more terrifying and nightmarish - it was clearly the most frightening monster from Q2 as most of the other ones weren't really scary.

Yeah Raven should definitively expand on the war aspect of the game, we should feel like we're fighting in a war. Having humans fighting alongside you for some missions would be great, just as long as they are not required to be alive at the end of the mission or if say one of them is, make him/her good and have good AI.

I think part of making the enemies more intimidating really relies on AI, even more so than appearence. Hopefully the Strogg will show a bit more brainpower this time along :;):

Good AI is a plus, but I don't think it's the most important part of a good enemy. I've seen good enemies that were dangerous but pretty stupid.

I just hope the enemies will have some really dangerous attacks and defensive abilities (not talking toughness here - making the enemies extremely tough is a lame way to make them hard). If Raven can pull off good AI, then it's super, but if their attacks generally suck, then no superb AI in the world can pull them out of the dirt again.

1. The in-game server browser should remember the user-selected sort order across sessions (after reloading). It is really annoying to have to go though the routine of selecting to sort by Ping EACH time I visit the server browser. At a minimum, the default sort order should be by Ping. This is the single most annoying bug in Q3A, since I see it
every time I play.

2. Please add an in-game message that checks IF there is an update and then tell the user.

3. Almost even more annoying is the autodownloading of maps & models.
These should be done from a server that is NOT the game server. The server admin should be able to make settings directing the clients to another site where these files are.

Allow auto downloads: YES Location of files: HTTP://SOME.PLACE.NOT.ON.GAME.SERVER.COM

Only if nothing is entered (or add a selection: use game server) does the download occur from the game server. This will greatly increase download speeds.

4. Please finally fix the 4 map limit in the Skirmish screen.

5. "Add to Favorites" should also be selectable in-game. I usually don't know that i like a server until I'm already playing on it.

6. If I select a server *while* the server list is refreshing/updating, the selection should stay on that server to give me enough time to check out the "info/properties" (e.g., to see if there are only bots on that server). Currently, the selection stays in one physical location while the updating list scrolls by underneath. This causes the server under the selection to frequently change, thus making it sometimes impossible to move the mouse down to the "Server Info" button in time.

7. Ranking System ("Honor" is one of the coolest features of Americas Army).

8. UI for votes (kick, map, etc). The basics would suffice.

9. Built-in Voice Chat - No multiplayer game should be without it.

10. Server browser that shows the "ranks" of the current players (or the average rank for that server). This will allow people to join servers that more closely match their skill levels.

11. Servers that only allow players with higher ranks (similar to the "advanced" servers for AAO).

12. UI to bind text messages to teammates/enemies. This should include a UI to create and bind custom texts.

If you end up implementing any of my suggestions as a result of my post, I would really appreciate a free copy of Q4.

PS. Why aren't you guys posting your (excellent) suggestions in the official wishlist thread?

Because the 'official' wishlist thread is very new, and this was the 'official' wishlist thread before. Just give people some time to discover the wishlist thread.
Btw, I already posted in that one - might do it again if I get some ideas I haven't posted already or old ideas that I feel should be re-emphasized.
