Okay I've tried a ton of things, including turning down all the settings. No matter what I seem to do I get a very poor frame rate in single player. Even with only 2 bad guys on the screen I get frame rate drops down to single digits. On the flip side, I have the settings turned up much higher and I'm getting 30-60 fps on a 32 players server during a large battle.
Something just doesn't match up here.

I have tried turning everything down and also the previous suggestions posted on the old message board. Still haven't tried safe mode. I'll give that a try tonight.

P3 - 1GHZ : 512mb PC150 SDRAM
Geforce 3 - ti500
Soundblaster Live
Windows XP

P.S. My fiance tried it her system (much better system and same problem)
P4 - 1.6ghz - 768mb DDR333
Geforce 4 - ti4400
Cmedia 5.1 sound.

less 30fps at 800x600 on that system is complete BS.

ive got the same problem too, i should definately be able to run it with my:
AthlonXP 1800+ on Windows XP
Asus A7V333 w/ 256MB DDR pc2100 (crucial)
Geforce4 ti 4200 w/ 28.32 detonators

but single player runs like crap and multiplayer runs pretty smooth (60+fps and up)

also has anyone else noticed, it could be just me< that in dark areas of some levels (mainly the seawardstar) it gets kinda pixelated and i see a bunch of black squares.

Try deleting your myconfig.sys file in the 'base' directory. This will force the game to redetect your video settings. It worked for me, don't ask me how but now my FPS is greater than 60. Thanks goes out to Kenn for this solution.

Now I've got a proble trying to click on the 'open save game'  menu or any saved game menu. The game just crashes to the desktop everytime.

Any Ideas?

I'll post this as a new topic as well.

- Beware of power sharing between your computer’s AGP slot and the first PCI slot.  We discovered in some cases that if your AGP video card is sharing power with the first PCI device, especially if it’s a sound card, the video card’s power and bandwidth is reduced significantly.  Removing the PCI device and moving it down a slot or two can help performance.

and how can one check this? is there software or something, i don't have anything in slot1 but what if power is shared with a different slot. Out of all your things written here, this is the one that really interested me in wanting to know more.

much appreciate some feedback on this... Thanks!

Well generally on some motherboards the irq and or power and other resources are shared with the first pci slot. I doubt that any of the other slots would be shared with the agp slot.

Oh and in reply to Ken's post. All of the hardware stuff is not an issue on my system (checked it already). And I've turned all the settings down below the original settings.

I've only seen the power sharing happen with the first PCI slot.  If you don't have anything plugged in there, don't worry about it.

The reason I mention it is because we use DELL computers here at Raven and when they come from the factory, the GeForce whatever card is in the AGP slot and the SBLive! is in the first PCI slot.  The first thing I do when they come in is uninstall the sound card, move it down a couple slots and reinstall it.

I agree with KeshTath.  I am currently on the tanker mission and have discovered that I simply cannot progress any further within the level.  My frames continue to drop as enemies come to attack.  After tweaking a bit more and lowering the settings to an absurd level given the power of my rig, I actually hit 4 fps on the deck of the ship.  This is not only rediculous, but also unplayable.  It is not our hardware.  I've tried a great number of drivers and configs.  EVERYONE of my other games run perfect...including those not made by Raven (Morrowind and MoH:AA for example...both games I can run a full to near-full detail with nary a hickup).  I hope this is addressed with a patch quickly...at least before the return policy date comes around, else its back to the shelf for this bad boy.

Don't get me wrong...I like this game enough to bend over backwards to try to get it working, but enough is enough.  This game needs a patch.

--EDIT-- I finally broke down and put EVERY setting at the lowest possible setting...I got a wopping 10 fps on the deck now!  A whole 6 frames better!  Sorry for the sarcasm  ;)  but this is just plain bad...

Anyway, for those curious about my rig: Athlon 1.4ghz, GeForce 3 Ti500, 384mb DDR, WinXP Home, SBLive Value

Well everyone make sure you put your vote in for how well your system runs in the poll. I've put choices for both tweaked and untweaked settings.
Maybe this well help give ravensoft an idea of how serious this issue is.  Not to mention let me know im not the only one.

VOTE HERE!

In response to the quote: That seems a bit exaggerated, seeing how I have friends with substantially more powerful systems that yours that are not able to get the highest resolution and detail on those games. But in comparision to MOH:AA I can turn down setting in that game and get a improvement in performance, while in SOF2 I seem to only get very marginal performance gains.

I think I'm just lucky with Morrowind...I'm one of the rare few who runs it well at high detail.  But MoH:AA is at full everything with great frames.  I can understand that SoFII has greater model detail, but the fact that I lowered everything to the minimum and it still running like trash indicates it is not my system.

I had to turn flares off to get good performance.

Athlon Tbird 1.2ghz
512mb pc133 mem
Voodoo3 2000  16mb
WinXP Pro

(outdated vid card I know but it I can't afford the GF3 & 4's right now)

Anyways, I get around 80fps in most areas.  The cargo area on the deck of the seaward star level I get performance problems but that's pretty much the only place in the demo with problems for me...everythign else is fast and smooth, with maximum details (minus the 32bit color that my card is not even capable of)  It was horrible before I turned flares off, fyi.
