I've been working on portaling a large outdoor map. I thought I'd show the progress I've made and ask some of the mapping veterans if they see any errors that I'm making as I'm working on it.

First the map with portals hid.



Now one that is portals only, everything else hidden.



Now one that has the top portal and the entities and detail hidden, to give you an idea of what is going on.



So, see any obvious errors in the way I'm doing it? All corners butt up against or into caulk brushes hid in trees and all are split into cells.

What you should be looking at instead are the r_speed numbers and then worry about portals in a problem area. remember the more portals you add, the longer it takes vis, and the greater the chance is that one of these portals will see into another.
