I've tried a number of times to compile a map and the only sucess I've had is the test compiling (extra unclicked, fast clicked) It takes 30 minutes.
Every other try slows to a crawl before stalling. The thing that puzzles me is that the processor isn't busy when I check it. It finally goes to the point where there's no progress for eight hours at which point I give up.



Is there something on the map that could be choking it up?

I do have some duplicate planes (I'm using a custom model someone posted up, but I reseached "Duplicate Planes" and they seem to be more of an irration that a serious issue. In any case, the compile behaves the same way whether it was there or not.)

Any ideas? Is this completely normal? Would any one have an interest in taking a look at the map to see if there's anything that would trip up the complier?

To add, I was getting this error with -viz (and unchecked viz) The map is portaled somewhat. This may help.

I feel your pain! I have made a very large map and had some of the same problems. You don't appear to have any portal leaks so thats cool. The leaf with too many portals is not good. I would as a start go back and convert EVERYTHING you can into detail brushes. Anything that is not involved with a portal with the exception of prefabs and models. Check your prefabs (if any) for sp things like nodes or hints and brushes involved with sp games. Get rid of all that. You should run your compile with Fast -vis at least so search the forums and find the link that shows you how to modify the compile file for that. What I did was to divide my map up with some massive portal brushes to bring down the portal numbers and it helped a lot. Between that and the detail brush conversion my -vis data came down large. Lastly on large maps you can reduce the samplescale on the light compile by checking the box and giving it a value of say 2. This will reduce your compile time a lot and avoid what I had where it took 70+ hours to compile and then crashed on the lighting. Lastly Have Patience! I thought my map would compile over night and it took 3 days! It is not a really cpu intensive program but it takes time so hang in there! Hope this helps you buddy.
