when I zip the files according to the tutorial on the site it then says to change the extension to a .iwd file. I rename it to myaimmap1.iwd but it still says its a winzip file.

It's probably associated itself with Winzip, put the .iwd file in your main folder and setup a server to see if it works, if it doesn't, make sure it doesn't have two (2) extensions such as .iwd.zip as this sometimes happens if show known extensions is turned off in Windows.

Try this :
Open Windows Explorer
Tools->Folder Options
Tab "View"
UNcheck "hide extentions for known filetypes".

I don't have Internet Explorer I have firefox and I checked to see if It would load when creating a server and I get could not load maps/mp/mp_aim1.d3dbsp. Now the name of my map saved in the radiant is mp_aim1.map and the real name of the map is mp_myaimmap1.iwd or whatever.

It all needs to match bud. The .bsp was compiled under one name and the .iwd has a different name. Either that or there was a compile error and the .bsp was not generated. Check your .gsc and other text files to make sure they all call for the same target name. Make sure all your files match also. On a different note are you from Wisconsin? I am moving back to the Milwaukee area from Vegas in two weeks. A fellow Packer Fan! Alt

The actual name of the .iwd is not important. what must have the same name is:

the .d3dbsp file
the .gsc file
the .arena file
the .csv files

The last two are not needed to get your map to work, so don't worry if you haven't created these yet.

Also, does your console start to predict the name of the map as you begin to type it in? For example, after typing /map mp_my... it should try and show you the rest of the map name. If it doesn't appear, I would suspect there's a problem with you iwd structure, so you'll need to check it again.
