Hey.

I am having a problem with some textures in two terrain patches. I have made a small tunnel between two underground storage compartments, but i have made it out of four terrain meshes (so it's uneven - it's meant to be dirt). The top and bottom meshes work fine, but the side ones do this:

As you can see (sorry for the darkness), some of it is fine, but the rest isn't. Can anybody help? This is for a school assignment due tomorrow, so any help would be great! thanks

Try selecting one of the patches that is messed up, and press S, then click on either natural or cap.

No, that didn't work. The thing is, that in Radiant, it appears perfect. No stretching. Only after the compilation and playing the map, does the stretching occur. Oh, and it is on the top and bottom patches too, not just the sides.

when that happens all you can do is to delete the brush or try another texture

Quite often natural fixes terrain meshes that stretch like this. Normally its becuase the texture has been stretches further than its origonal size.

This is similar to when you do a archeway and the end caps texturing play up. There is a tuturial somewhere here on modsonline where getting the textures to display correctly. Okay found it. Try this end cap tutorial

It is in the SOF2 tutorials but it still applies to COD/2. It helped me.

Thanks very much for helping, but since it's due tomorrow I just tried a different texture, and that worked fine, with no stretching at all. I'll have a look at that tut if I get any other related probs.

There is another problem, to do with my base patch, for my valley. I split it several times to get two holes to go into those storage areas, and after I did that, on one of the patches created, no light gets to it. Just black. Like so:

Anybody have any ideas? I've capped the texture, all the Surface Inspector settings are the same, I simply have no idea what has happened. It's not even as though it applies to that entire strip of patch (that strip continues across the whole valley). I'm completely stumped, and again, this is due tomorrow :P. Thanks.

once those black areas start they are hard to fix. try putting something over them like a model or another terrain patch. or you can delete them and try again or try another texture

I remember getting these black spots with UO.
Try selecting the patch area, press "V", and move some of the vertices up or down.
Maybe change your sundirection a bit. See if those helps out. Good luck.

Thanks very very much. I've had that problem since near the beginning of my project, and simple changing the vertices 1 grid point and welding them with their surroundings cured it in an instant! Thanks very much. Off to compile my map, and to hand it in for marking tomorrow! (I damn well better go well. Nobody else has done anything near this quality :P)
