for those textures that run like that, there are two things you can do. the first is select the mesh and pres cntrl+shift and the "n" key. this will cycle cap textures. alot of times it will fix the problem. if it doesn't fix it, the other thing i have done is split the verts to cut out the part that is running, then re-textured it again and sometimes that will work, if it doesn't, then you do the cycle cap texutres again on the part you cut out. since it's not part of the main mesh anymore, it won't affect the rest when you cycle the cap texture. One of those methods will work for you.

For a high school English class my younger sister had to write about experiencing something new. She chose mapping and let me teach her/help her build a small map. She finished her assignment but the map was never completed and she hates mapping with a passion now. Oh well, someday I think I'll fix up the map and release it under her name, just to mess with her.

You can scope out these patch problems in the editor by hitting "shift L" to show the light map layout. Areas that appear inconsistent with the pattern are potential black holes in final render. Check to make sure they do not overlap other patches. Most times the vertices have been stretched and cutting out the area and replacing with a more uniform patch will fix the problem. I had several of these areas in my map and trying to manipulate the patches got very frustrating. Hope this helps! Alt
