Hi all,
Been havin trubbles for ages now, created 2 maps, all done, mp_Warzone and mp_Hamburger_Hill. Both zipped up and called " mp_warzone " with all folders n files required (.gsc, fx arena etc), so i end up with one file called " mp_warzone.iwd " containing both maps.
Built a new pc to become my server for CoD2, Intel Pentium 2.8ghz, 2 gig ram, 250gig ide hdd, 128 mb nvidia geforce (although not required when using dedicated server).
installed CoD2 onto WinXp Pro, fresh install, copied my " mp_warzone.iwd" file into " C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 2\main "
created 2 extra folders
1 - players
2 - Shimm ( thats the name of my pc )
dropped ( 1 - players ) into " main "
dropped ( 2 - Shimm ) into " players "
created a text file called " active.txt " and placed one line of text innit which is the name of my pc ( Shimm ).. so it just says .... Shimm ...... and dropped this into the " players " folder.
created another file called " config_mp.cfg " - left it blank as game will create its contents, and dropped it into the " Shimm " folder
grabbed hold of my " Call of Duty(R) 2 Multiplayer " icon from my desktop, right clicked it and pulled up the properties for it.
change the " target line " which was this.....
"C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 2\cod2mp_s.exe"
to this .....
"C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 2\cod2mp_s.exe"
+set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg +map_rotate
(dedicated 1 = LAN ... 2 = INTERNET )
and saved it to the desktop.
i then created a file called " server.cfg " and filled it in with several options that i copied from the net where other uses have had positive results in using the same options.
no point listing them as they are normal.
just things like email, message of the day and ip number etc where changed to accomodate my setup.
i then went into my netgear router and set up " port forwarding " as per instructions from the guys / website at netgear.
so far - everythin really easy and straightforward.
on the server that ive just explained above, i double click the CoD2 mp icon (that i altered) and the box opens up and my games starts.
i then go onto another pc and click on "JOIN" off the main menu, change ...
" source " to " LOCAL "
" connection" to " LAN/CABLE/DSL "
" gametype " to " Team Deathmatch " (thats what both maps are)
then " PING " it appears!! great, using 3 other machines on my LAN, all with AUTO or STATIC IP's, i can join, run around and kill people. Great stuff!
BUT, and this is the downer.....
if i change the " source " to " internet ", occasionally the name of my server appears and someone around the world starts downloadin my map, then enters the game, tells me my maps are real cool and people die now and again, as you do lol.
my mates, all outside of my LAN and connecting via the " JOIN " menu, all tell me that sometimes they see it and sometimes they dont??
" IF " they fire up a REAL NEAT program called XFIRE! (get it its great!) then they all see me " IN " my game and sometimes they can join me, sometimes they cant.
(yes ive also setup xfire in my router port 25999)
Now then, every time i go into CoD2, and look down the JOIN list, i see servers that are permanantley listed every single day.
My question, now that ive got here lol, is where the bloody ell is mine and why dont it stay there!!
my net connection is a 10meg cable setup with 5 pcs all sittin on my LAN, which compromises of all pcs hard wired using RJ-45 into an 8 port hub and then 1 cable feeds into the router, the warzone server which is plugged directly into the back of the router in slot 1.
All pcs access the net no probs, all communicate and share files, plenty of protection, all firewall software is setup correctly (been in the business for over 20 years)
so wass goin on - why o why wont my server become visible permanantly on the join list, or what the eck am i doin wrong.
anyone out there - cmon you teckkies, give us a clue
