Thanks Caretaker.

I can't find the arches tutorial you mentioned, but what else is new.[sad]

I think I will just give up on this question, and stick to using square brushes and such in my maps. Life is too short to waste my time on trying to make a fundamentally retarded program do anything beyond making square things. My maps are just for lunch time games at work. Simple and basic maps for simple people to simply shoot the hell out of each other. I would rather use my time for programming, then at least I know that I will have a program that actually works properly, and does usefull things. Unlike Radiant! God, what a truely hopeless and pathetic program it is. I have been using computers for 20 years, and never have I found a program more hopeless and worthless than Radiant. I thought Microsoft and Sun produced crap. But compared to the people who created radiant, MS and Sun are geniuses.

Sorry MS and Sun - I was WRONG! [crazy]

There is nothing wrong with Radiant as long as you know the limits of the ENGINE. The fact you can't cut a circular brush has nothing to do with the progrma, but more with CoD2 and the compiler.

Think about this...

you can "imitate" a circle by making a multisided brush (like 20 sides...).. you can cut THOSE out of a brush...

if you don't knoiw what I mean do this..

make a brush.. go to brush->arbitrary sided and enter 20...
Now you'll have a brush which is not a cirle.. but very close. you CAN cut that shape out of a brush.

Yes I see what you mean. Now that I make a 20 sided brush, I can cut through another brush. My problem was that I was creating a 50 sided brush. Too many sides for radiant to handle I assume.

Thanks very much for the help, its much appreciated [thumbs_up]

Though I use Cod 2 radiant my technique is pretty much as has been stated up above. Here are 4 pics from a map that Im working on that has a pipe going through a wall. This is just something that I did up in a couple of minutes and is no way complete yet.[biggrin]

The backside of the wall will not be seen so I dont care if it isnt tight against the pipe and on the exposed end of the pipe it has a big flange on it that hides the gaps.

As CareTaker mentioned I could have used more cuts and finessed the wall if I had needed to.

Good Luck with your map and dont give up on radiant just yet.

Thanks for that LPRay.

I didn't think about using a flange to hide the hole in the wall. Thats a very good idea. And it may work better than cutting a circular hole, as it down not create so many pieces in the wall.

So how exactly did you make the flange? I assume you created a second short circular brush, slightly wider than the first, then hollowed it out ?

LOL Ceaser Im not that brainy, xmodel is my friend and specifically xmodel/railpipe2 to be exact which for my use I adjusted with modelscale 1.5 to allow people to stand up inside the pipe.

What I did was just shove the pipe through the brush you want to use and then clip away til the pipe was free of the brush as is shown in my pics.

You used an xmodel?? And players can walk THROUGH it??? Hell, I didn't know that. [banghead]

Are there any other xmodels you know of which have similar characteristics for CODUO?

Thanks for all the help guys, but I have decided to totally give up using radiant. The worthless piece of crap is now making whole sections of my map transparent. When I replace the problem section with a whole newly re-created section, it then makes another different section transparent. Yesterday it displayed fine, today it has gone insane. I have wasted a whole weekend on this rubbish program, and now I simply cannot take any more of having to fix up never ending problems. I am sticking to programming, which is far easier and much more reliable than this worthless program.

WOW, I guess we can't please all the people all the time.

I make circular holes all the time with the method(s) Caretaker has mentioned.

Sorry to see you go but for a true programmer to give up on this rather simple program is kinda funny. I mean no disrespect but I'm far from being a programmer and to me, this editor has been easiest from others I use.
