Seems that the original mapper has released the bsps and map files for two maps that never saw the light of day from Raven for sof2. These are for single player. Also are missing textures.
Anybody want to take a crack at making them multiplayer and fixing up the texture problems?

Here is the link direct from Ravensoft.

I havent done anything with them besided loading em up in Radient to take a look see. They are missing alot of shaders and are leaky acording to GTK radient. I'd like to see the jor3 one completed for multiplayer. It looks pretty cool. Its a good base for someone to start with.

i agree that it's a good base for someone to start mapping with, but how strange that they have released them, and even more strange is that they have made them with so much shaders missing and leaking. (specialy the leaking part is strange, because that's one of the first things that you learn as a mapper, quit odd!!!!)

Yes, the guy who posted them is a ravensoft mapper. goes by the name Mardegun. He is actually Clem Samson-Samuel. The missing shaders are due to the required ones were never shiped with the game. If I knew more about mapping, I would take a crack at this, but I would have to learn all the tools, techniques etc. I know enough to install radient and browse around. Lol.

i know what you mean, it takes quit some time to learn mapping with some editor. when you talked about the errors in these 2 maps i emidiatly thought about fixing them and releasing them so people can play them, because as you maybe know have i made about 20 sp-maps with sof2. but that would mean that i have to get used to using the GTKRadiant again, what will take at least a day or 2, (it's so long ago that i worked with sof2). and i'm currently very bussy with FEAR sp-mapping. also could i maybe get troubles with Mardegun or Ravensoft, because even when i should give them the credits, it;'s still not aloud to release original stuff that was never released before. (well, these 2 are now released, but in such a way that they still can't be played). and i have to be honnist, i most of the time only make maps that will be played also by severel tousends of people, and sof2 is (even when it is still a great game) nearly death. the download rate of my sof2 sp-maps was in the beginning quit high, but the last year hardly anyone plays (downloads) them anymore. so, why bother puting in a few days of mapping time, when 'nobody' will play them afterall.

leon

(still, it's a real shame that they lay around, 2 original sof2 sp-maps, it's to silly for words when i think of it!!)

is there realy no one else that wants to take a look at them, and fix the shaders, because that realy isn't that hard to do, ones you know how to do so....

He surely wanted someone to finish these otherwise he wouldn't have released them. I've looked at them and can see he intended to add more rooms in some spots, it's also missing enemies and items, no scripting was done yet, and of course loads of missing shaders. I would be interested to know what the original goals were for the maps and where it fit in with the original storyline, but I probably won't be the one to finish them up... Unless you want to help me spy? I could do some of the scripting.

well, like i mentioned before, i'm currently very busy with Fear sp-mapping. and it's a few years ago that i mapped with Sof2 now, what makes that i have to get in to it again. still, 2 original sof2 sp-maps that just lay around and can't be played, that's something that i just can't stand. so i'm realy interested in a way to see how they could be finisht. you're right about the idea, i think, that finishing them wouldn't get some one in trouble, because like you said, they wouldn't have released them otherwise.
about the scripting part, when i made my sof2 sp-mappacks nobody else did make them because everybody thought (and maybe still thinks) that you need scripting for the NPC';s to let them move and attack. but that's not true. about 80% of the NPC's in my sof2 sp-maps move and attack without scripting. why the original sp-maps all have scripting for the npc's i do not know, because it's simply not necessary.

leon

(because i can't stand it that these maps lay around i am still thinking about finishing them, but i'm still not sure. first i need to finish my fear sp-map that i'm currently working on and that will be somewhere at the end of this week. maybe i will start working on them then, even more so because i still have a sof2 sp-map laying around that is never released. it was the last one that i made and it needs a little bit of work to release it, so when i do that i of course will also look at these 2 sp-maps)

Would it be easier to convert them to multiplayer maps? Just chop off areas that dont seem relevent, add spawnpoints and flags. Thats what I was thinking anyway. There are also still lots of folks playing the MP part of the game to make it worthwhile IMO.

that is ofcourse also a good idea, but i am a real sp fan, i hardly play ever MP, (although i race the last few months a lot with FlatOut2, but that is a racing game, no fps), and although i map now for 8 years i never have made even one mp map. like i said, i realy am a real sp-fan/mapper.

but ofcourse could you change them into a mp map, that would indeed be much easier, but if they will be played is anopther thing, severs have to pick them up. i think they will be played by more people when there changed into sp maps, although the sof2 community is quit small now because of the fact that the game is already quit old. but that's normal with older games.
