Activision, the world known game publisher announced that they will be using and supporting Valve's digital delivery service, Steam.

The service, which is used by various developers for distrubution of their games, will see 4 Activision Games.

Infinity Ward's :
Call of Duty and Call of Duty 2,

Grey Matter's:
Call of Duty United Offensive, and Neversoft's GUN.

Call of Duty, Call of Duty United Offensive, and GUN will all be priced at $19.95. Call of Duty 2 will be priced at $39.95. All four games are expected to launch this month.

Could this lead the end to large supplies of boxed games available at your local game store? I know I personally prefer having my games on disc.

Also, is this steam support only going to be with the games which were purchased after they are launched on Steam, or will those who have had the game for longer still have the access to the games over steam.

I just hope they don't end up trying to have us launch the game via Steam.

It's bad enough having to reinstall some games from CD/DVD let alone having to download them first before reinstalling.

I actually like the convenience of Steam. Now, whether I am at work, or just at another computer, I can install steam and get whatever game I want to play up and running. I don't have to carry around disks or worry about cd keys.

Although I'm a big fan of Valve and all that they have done in the past I can see where this might be a problem for those that can't get a decent connection to the web. Until all those little things are sorted out I think we'll be seeing boxed games for sometime to come.

Cheers

Would have to agree grudgingly. Valid point.

Yeh I agree, there won't be people loosing CD's and the keys, but especially for me and those on a slower connection, downloading these games can take a while. 2 hours to download Call of Duty when I could just install the game via CD and have it installed in 10 or so minutes. The CD beats it hands down.

You have got to be on a fast connection for this to be in your best inertersts in my opinion. Damn British ISP's! [mad]
