Ok I'm getting used to the hammer settings.
But can I still get an answer to what's causing the *both teams are full!!!* error ?
I placed 2 ct and t info players in my map but can only spectate the map, not play as either one.

And how do I do a 3D sky/landscape illusion around my map ?
And how do structural/detail brushes work here ?
And and and......

one thing seems to be fixed: the spawn error.

"(Unlike HL2SP and HL2DM spawn point entities, CS:S spawn point entities will intersect the ground if not placed a couple of units above it.) Try moving the entities up a little bit to make sure that they are not intersecting with anything. "

took me while to find this one. again a brilliant *BY THE WAY* fact that most ppl ASSUME everyone else to know...

why do I have to dig the easy stuff always up the hard way ?
Couldn't the *first cs:s map* tutorial say in dog-size capital letters that "KEEP SOME SPACE BETWEEN YOUR INFO PLAYER ENTITIES OR YOU GET AN ERROR ! DON'T LET THEM TOUCH THE GROUND WITHOUT SPACE !" ??? [mad]

ps. the problem with editing tutorial is nothing more but the fact that these tuts are written by ppl who are good in mapping, BUT have in most cases poor explaining and educating skills. these writers should drop down to a lvl zero when doing a tutorial and include EVERY single note and possible error causing issue that a total noob mapper is sure to encounter. [sad]

3d landscape: that's a sky.
I will assume your map is sealed and you don't have and leaks. And, assume that what is sealing your map are walls around the map currently textured with something that doesn't look like the great outdoors (like bricks instead of a sky).

- Select the walls and ceiling that you want to have looking like a sky (well, select on at a time). You will be applying a sky texture to them.
Open the texture application tool and browse for a texture.

- Type into the word filter "sky" and select the texture "tools/toolsskybox" (blue with a word in the middle)

- apply this texture where you want to see sky

This will allow you the default sky texture in in your map.

To change the sky,
- select Map > Map Properties from the menu.
- Select SkyBox Texture Name
- enter a new name as found on this list:

Structural vs Detail brushes

You should know by know that you don't want your maps to leak. Otherwise you will get an error. Well, your outer walls must be structural so they dpn't leak. This means they are solid walls. Detail brushes are not solid like structural brushes and should only be used on those brushes that are details to the map.

If you make a building, you want the walls to be structural. Otherwise the game will think the player can see through the walls (even though you really can'y) and draw the geometry of what's inside of this building. You probably know, if the game draws too much of the map all at once, then it starts to get laggy.

So, a short wall, a crate, or other details in the map should be detail brushes. They don't need to block the player from seeing what's on the other side.

Another note.... structural brushes will split their geometry where they intersect. If you place a crate that is a structural brush on the ground, then where it touches the ground the brushes will be divided inside of the game. The more splits, the more geometry and that means more lag (usually). But, if that crate were detail, then it wouldn't split the touching structural brush.

by the way.. entities are not structural either.

Hope that helps.

I started using that key config to play back in 1993 with Doom and have been using those keys to move and look with the mouse. Of course, in early Doom you couldn't look up, but now with the Legacy port you can and it is so much better. [rocking]

I think the WSAD keys for moving around in a computer game caught on because of the elite gamer Thrash used that key config and everyone wanted to be like him. Also, back in the Duke Nukem 3D days, a lot of players were tweaking their config with those key binds and telling everyone else on the forums. [2guns]

Sorry for getting off topic but I couldn't resist the game trivia op!

IMHO ASD users are abusers -.-

toggling strafe keys makes it hard to get hit, doesn't really take any real skills or tactics, just toggle away and get hit less.

I'd love to see a mod for cs:s with more realism.
Fix the momentum in player models. Currently they are moving way too fast, especially sideway. Try it, ask your buddy to go behind a corner and strafe so you can see him and not, *as fast as in the game*, I bet my grandma he falls over, twists his ancle or something like that. And without full gear and carryweight which slows you down anyways. These superhumans are really annoying, can't even place your aim on them and they're already gone...

Ok I stop here, this could become an ugly flame elsewise... [casanova]
don't wanna hurt any nerds feelings right now [cool]

elemenz, you must be a bit older than. I am and I used to subscribe to that philosophy. But proper keyboard setup is so important. Now, I would have chosen ESDF instead for a few reasons:

- more keys on your left to work with
- the E has a nub so you know you're on the E
- easier on the wrist

But I found it too hard to keep resetting all my games keyboard settings each time I jumped from computer to computer or game to game. So I gave in and it has reduced the amount of work required to play and enjoy a game.

I also tried a couple external controls with keys, but who wants to carry that around to different games. Again, too much work. I just want to sit down and play.

Oh, I don't think I gave into WASD until about 2001. Somewhere around the SOF 1/2 series. (that's 1 and 2 not half. lol)

I read somewhere that the WASD combination is nicknamed "the golden triangle" in some places ;)

PS. doesn't the 'F' key have the nub???
