Quick answer - Yes.

I've had a play with the Beta and have only installed COD2 - It played fine. If you hadn't heard - There will be Vista only games. Halo2 has been announce as one of them. Maybe all future MS games will be Vista only - Be interesting to see if other developers follow suite.

Personally - I wont be upgrading to Vista till the first SP. Then it'll be a completly new computer with all the latest goodies so it actually will operate to its fullest potential.

I don't know if anyone realises? but I read somewhere that Vista will not support SLI. So goodbye QuadSLI. Unless they change something by release? I believe its todo with how Vista handles hardware. It controlls/locks everything down so it can manage everything more efficiently (supposedly).

Remember when XP was released - It was the only OS you could buy when purchasing a new PC. Guarateed it'll happen again.

We shouldn't have to be forced to upgrade to the latest OS to play a game...looks like it'll happen. I guess it has happened with XP.

WoW.

Seems that i have to buy me a copy of Windows XP to be sure
for the future.

I now have a preinstalled Windows XP which comes with the
HP system.

I am used to Windows XP.

Don't want to upgrade.

Would also be a shame that the future games only will run on
Windows Vista only.

Again we have to pull out money.

There are going to be some older games that have trouble running without additional setup. However, from the reports that I read, all games are so far working with Vista. The only hold-ups where with older games. The work around was to tell Vista to run the game using the methods that XP now uses.

There are a few articles on line describing what people have tested and how well this new OS works with games. Like I said.. some glitches, but basically they all do work.

Now.. the pain that will be felt by most of us.... Vista uses A LOT OF RAM. So, if you're planning on playing Doom 3 with the setting turned up, you better make sure you have enough ram to do it. I would say, 2Gb of RAM will be the normal setup. Add more than that for higher performance. Luckily, the price of RAM is lower than it used to be.

I really do wish that Linux was an answer. But then you're left out of the cutting edge gaming scene like Mac. You can try those emulators for running windows progams on the alternative OS. For Linus there's Wine and for Mac there's Cider and Boot Camp. However, those are emulators which eat up part of your resources that would be better spent on games.

Gaming with linux will only be a viable option if they manage to pull of that directx thing in linux. They're trying.
