is it possible to make a climbable rope? like the one in the point du hoc level where you have to climb up the cliff. also i want to make this for mp.

Overlay a ladder texture on the model or brush you've set as the rope.

but if i did that then wouldnt it play the animation for the player climbing a ladder? then that would just look dumb when the player looks like he's climbing a ladder but its actually a rope

I have done this only is a test map thou, it works fine, granted it may look slightly odd for the player to be climbing like hes going up and ladder, but does it really matter that much? It stil serves its purpose.

okay so not only does that not work but now i have another question, how can you make the rope curve to the shape of the cliff? since the rope is a model there is only 4 vertices on each end so you can't make fancy curves.

You could resize the rope model by using modelscale and "connecting" a bunch of them together at slightly different angles from verticle. This way you can simulate a curved rope but with alot of little ropes.
