well i can climb it but it does the ladder animation, and thats a good idea to make alot of little ropes but it just wont look good. i'm sure some of people are saying "well who cares just as long as you get it to work." but i'm kinda picky, i want the rope to look natural and i want it to play a rope climbing animation, sorry about my pickyness[tongue]

how about not using ropes but just let em climb up the rocks the ladder animation should almost look like you are climbing a mountain

to make a rope I would do a dense patch cylinder (patch/primitives/ after you've selected a caulk brush). to make it look natural move vertices around just like you would with any patch, by pressing 'v'. hint : move "donuts" of vertices with the help of column selection (shift+left click). you'll see it is quite long and there is lots of trial and error doing that. but if patient enough you can make this look good.

you could even maybe copy that final rope and apply a ladder texture to the cloned rope ... but that might not work I don't know ...

Does anyone know if there is a rope climbing animation for characters within the game?

I have to admit that I have never really paid specific attention to this :o

Well I have to confess that I am not up to speed with the SDK for CoD2. I only use the level editor. Is there a model viewer or something?

In UnrealEd you can view all the character animations but obviously that doesn't help here :(

It might be worth browsing the web to see if there are any tools out there?

well there is no sdk for CoD2, just what they give you in the mapping tools

I am looking at this as well for my mp map. Climbing a rope by using the ladder tool is far most the easiest way but is hardly realistic. You get the sound of a wooden ladder or stair and this doesn't work on cliffs.

Climbing the rope as its done in Du Hoc assault is not an effect but its scripted. If you have a look at iw_07.iwd and you look in the maps/mp folder you will find the duhoc_assault.gsc and there its scripted. I am now trying to get my head around it and hope I am able to convert it into a script that will work in my MP map.

If anyone has experience with this, feel free to help me.

this thread is 3 years old, i wonder how you found it ;)

if it's scripted in an sp mission, it probably involves animation code. unfortunately, most animation functions are missing in the mp executable. what you need is definately a work-around rather than a clean solution.
