I have read and re-read the tutorials, watched the vid tutorial all describing the process of making a custom texture with transparency using photoshop.

I tried with my paintshop pro and the DDS converter 2.1 I use but cannot get it to properly create a texture that will blend.

Has anybody worked out the process using paintshop pro?

If so I would be greatly indebted if you posted a working process.

thanks in advance,

blmeanie

It wasn't an exaxt match but it led me down the path to get it to work, for the most part.

Thanks so much, need to fine tune my process.

ok, while the transparancy works, when the texture is placed on a brush (other 5 sides nodraw decal) and placed inside another brush so the facing with the texture is flush with the bigger brush (as all tutorials say to do), it makes the transparent part of the brush see-through the bigger brush.

Should I just move it slightly out of the bigger brush so it isn't touching?

or,

is there something I did in paintshop pro or the DDS converter that caused it? I followed the tutorial Lauramaegan posted above.

I'll take a look.

Do I need to compile after recreating the dds and then the material using the asset manager? or, can I just fire up the map again and it will use the latest version of the material?

I continue to struggle, thought I was close and lost what progress I had made.

I have followed tutorials over and over with no satisfactory results. [banghead]

back to the drawing board...

ok, I have resumed my attempts to get a decal with transparency to work.

I have created the dds file and used the asset manager and get it to work...kind of.

When placed flush with a surface, it flickers as you move around it.

When placed one unit above the surface it works fine.

Also - part of the image is solid black and this comes across in the game distorted and not solid black anymore, could this be caused by black being a traditional transparency color? It currently is not a traditional 0,0,0 black?

How can I stop the flickering?
