couldnt really find any specific answer so im just going to ask. whats the best "correct" way at making a house? you put up all 6 walls correct seperately? and then just make sure none are pertruding through the others? also when i do attempt a house that way and i use clipper to make a slanted roof it just leaves a gap in the top of the house, how do i fix that and possibly other problems when making a slanted face of a house as well?

ive seen that tut quite a few times, but from what ive been reading over and over and over is that the CSG Hollow tool is a very bad tool to use because it makes errors....

so do we just start by making a regular one brush box and then clip the design we want and then hollow and line up the walls/floor/roof or is there some other way to go about making a house. ????

For simple box-type rooms, I use the CSG tool, but then I tweak the vertices to make mitred joints. It adds a little time to each building but I think it is worth the effort.

csg hollow is ok too use, and I don 't use the clipper to make walls I just draw them in, but make sure you stay on grid size of 8 or larger, and then lower your grid size to 2 or 4 to do detail. If you don't stay on a 8 or larger grid size your asking for trouble later with overlapping brushes. As for slanted roof make a triangle first, copy that, with copy ,paste, make your cuts, then paste in the original triangle again.Make your cuts, paste triangle again...well you get it.doing it that way you should have overlapping points at the top, just use clipper 90 deg, no gap.

some words of advice that i can share

learn to use the editor and all of its tools (and where each tool can be used safely)

draw your brushes and mitre the corners using the edge tool to draw back the corners to form the angles required

stay away from any csg functions, they are usually a shortcut to disaster, especially if you start depending on them

stay away from using the vertices manipulator on brushes...it never produces the results you want

leave snap to grid on

learn to use the clipper in both the 2 point and 3 point clip mode

practice using the tools before you decide to build something...people with no experience dont rush out and buy a whole bunch of tools at the hardware store and try and make a house if they have absolutely no experience...to a certain extent you can learn as you go..but you will likely be happier with the end result if you show up prepared

never be afraid to try something different, but dont be disappointed if it doesn't work...and dont let it swell your head too much if it does work

another small thing ...

If you are making a staircase in the house .. make sure that you leave enough headroom for the player to be able to walk up the staircase to the next floor. The number of times that I have miscalculated and found myself having to crouch to get up the stairs.

Frustrating when it happens .. but luckily you won't end up doing to often as you tend to remember after its happened a couple of times ;)

Stryder M8 is there a tut on using the clipper tool for the 3 point clip mode. Don't know how to use it with the 3 point method. [duh]
