Hey, gang... I'm not much of a modeller, so asking me to make a custom model is laughable at best.

Anyway, I'm in need of a hanging lamp. Basically a wire which supports a cone-shaped lampshade-type thingy (metal) and a bulb. Ok, well, I can improvise everything except the lampshade. Basically cone-shaped that hangs over the bulb, but the angle is no more than 30 deg. from the top/center. I tried using the brush->primitive->cone but that has a base to it and obviously that's where the bulb would be. I tried to manually make the cone, but rotating several brushes, etc... it proved to be a daunting task and I certainly couldn't get it right.

So, can anyone tell me how I would go about making a cone-shaped lampshade without using an external application? Would be simpler if I could just import the model from COD, but apparently that can't be done. If someone has a model of this already, I'd be super greatful, but just simply telling me how I can cheat using Radiant would be good, too.

TIA,
Mista

You can make the lamb shade cone in radiant. But it acts a little weird.

First make a box, 16 x 16 x 16 and give it a texture.

Then select Patch/Primitives/Cone. The result looks like a drum rather than a cone.

Position the cursor above the drum in the 2d view, press and hold the left mouse button and drag down someone to resize. The drum turns into the cone you wanted. I typically drag down to 3 which will give you a 16 diamater cone 3 inches tall.

You will need a special material that has cullface set to none so that the underside does not become see through. You can do this with a custom texture made through the asset manager.

Alternatively you can deal with the see through textures with capping by selecting the cone and pressing SHIFT-C to create a cap patch. Unselect all and only select the newly created circular cap.

You obviously want the shade hollow. For this you need to move the middle of the disk up without modifying the outside points.

Press V to edit the vertices of the flat disc, go to a top view of the disc with Ctrl-Tab, press the black closed lock toolbar icon (has three black dots next to the lock) and lock all vertices points at the perimeter of the circle by clicking on each until they turn red, then unclick the lock toolbar icon.

Now you can go in the 3d view and drag the middle point of the cap up to hollow out the inside of the cone.

Ended up using your alternative method and it worked like a charm. I did have a problem getting the bottom to hollow out, but I had misread your instructions and was attempting to modify the upper part of the cone. Once I figured that out it was a snap.

Thanks for the help! Really appreciate it.
