hey all,
(I hope you like to read)
I've started mapping during UO, but having experience already with 3d eng drawings I gained some skills pretty quick. well I've been working on this map since I started mapping (since I became a general member here :) ). yes it is my first map, but I tend to think the map will simply blow you away. I've amazed myself countless times seeing what I can do. as an example, the building of the first screenshot was my first building ever... I did tweaked it a little bit throught time, but the general shape stayed the same.
about the map's name and location :
I live in the beautifull province of quebec (yup i'm french ... well now bilingual) so I absolutly wanted to make a quebec map. Saint-Vallier is a REAL village near Quebec city, I got some familly that lives. but the map holds no ressemblance to the real village, other than one house being designed based on my uncle's house. I kept the village name tho, because the map became to look as if it was in a valley. and "vallier" looks a lot like "valley" (easier for anglophones to remember the name). thus the file name mp_valley.
but now I hear you say : "but there was no war in Canada !!". and to that I say false !!! lol there was some U-boats in canadian water.... and there was some japanese in north british-columbia (I think so ...). anyway, it is true however that there was no fighting in Quebec. So I made up a fake history (d'uh). lol. of course it doesn't make sense... but anyway here it goes :
after invading france, germany realised they could also invade canada. (don't ask me how they manage to cross the atlantic with all these troops. of course invading canada was of no interest for them ... but let's pretend they did). they first were able to capture the maritimes, including the real important allied port of Halifax. (someone wants to make an Halifax map ? you know after that massive boat explosion ... that would be cool) they then were able to move inland toward the great lakes throught the st-laurence river (le fleuve du saint-laurent) easily defeating the weak canadian army. in there way : 4 of the most important cities of canada : quebec, montreal, ottawa and finally toronto, in that order. the americans tho, seeing their northern friends getting pumbled are able to stop the german advance in ottawa. still montreal and quebec city are now germans .... but not for long. germany severly weakened themselves trying that canadian invasion ... it was a matter of time. the allied developped a plan called "overload" (you all know the story) ... which also contained the liberation of quebec ! while the bulk of the allied army goes into fortified france, a mixed group of allied soldiers (americans and british - all fighting under the canadian flag - the map allies are british) are sent to canada to help the canadian resistance (so basically I want to think that you're fighting as a canadian). while germany put all efforts in france, the allied makes good progress in canada. they reach a small village on the south of the st-laurence, on the other side lies quebec city, called Saint-Vallier. the germans had time to fortified Saint-Vallier...so they defended it like crazy. this was important too cuz this village is at gun range of quebec city and is on of the most important port on the south side of the st-laurence. is this the final stand of the germans in canada ? will the resistance advance get suddenly crushed.
alright now for the screenshots !! keep in mind it's work in progress, but I can see the end near now. comments are more than welcomed.
btw, I know of the bug on the last screenie, i'm hoping a grid file will fix this.
features :
- hazards : electric wires, random artillery shells (thx to rasta), explosing barrels (scripted by me ! - they also respawns every 2 mins or so).
- panzershreck that respawns every minute or so (thx to sentchy)
- church bell : shoot it, hear it, and see it move ! (scripted by me !)
and I have some wicked scripting ideas but I'll finish the map first and then I'll see.
