I have a little topic for you guys to add to. Basically, if you have any FAQ that you think would help out the members here, relating to COD2 Mapping, feel free to post them. I would sticky this but I don't mod here.

Remember, this is a nice and friendly post. All you need to put in is a Question: and an Answer:

I will start it off.

Question:
Why do I need to remove custom maps/mods?

Answer: Beacause they cause interference with the editor, and the final production of your map. They give you compile errors which can be avoided without them.

Solution: I would recommend you have 2 versions of Call of Duty 2. I copy can be for mapping and one can be for playing. If space is an issue, you can always put yourmods in a folder outside of COD2. So when you map, they are not in the way. It is a little more of a pain however when you have to keep doing this when playing casually.

Good idea but making a new topic with the right topic name will be easier for those who are searching and make a new forum category ... just a suggestion.

Example:
Category: COD2: Frequently Asked Questions

topic name: Why do I need to remove custom maps/mods?

Question: When i try to run my map why does it give me this error
Quote:
Error during initialization:
script runtime error
(see console for details)
(file 'maps/mp/gametypes/_callbacksetup.gsc', line 10)

Answer: The game cannot find your "mp_mapname.gsc" because
a. It does not exist
b. it is incorrectly named
c. it is in the wrong directory
d. it has the wrong extension

Solution: First make sure it will be created with the proper extension by clicking on "My Computer" and then on the toolbar at the top of the window select
Tools->Folder Options
Tab "View"
and then uncheck "hide extensions for known filetypes".

Second follow the tutorial for creating a simple .gsc located Here

Question: Why do textures appear black and red ( see pic )

Answer: Because your video card does not support Shader Model 2.0 or higher.

Soulution: You will need to get a video card that supports Shader Model 2.0 or higher. For ATI cards Radeon 9500 and up support this. For Nvidia cards GeForce 5200 and up support this

Something else that I have seen in the forums.

Question: I am trying to connect vertices, but Control + K isn't working. Why?

Answer: In the COD2 Editor, Control + K has been changed to W. You select your to-be welded verticed, then just press W.

Question: I get rainbow colours after compiling my map

Answer: Make a lightgrid as described in this tutorial or place a static model (works on occasion)

Question: I placed a model or a prefab and now I've got a sportscar with mounted guns in my map

Answer: You've placed an SP model (or a prefab with an SP model in it) Remove the model and replace it with a MP model (if you placed a vehicle, make sure you've got the _static one). If you've placed a prefab, remove it.
