Whats goin on fellas, gotsa question for you computer guys out there. The motherboard in my Dell Dimension 4500 has a 2.0GHz pentium 4 processor, im wanting to upgrade the processor to a 2.8GHz, ive already got the cpu, im just wanting to know will the motherboard support the new cpu? Thats the thing, i dont know what the motherboard is....all i know is that it is the motherboard from a Dell Dimension 4500...

ok, according to this website, your dell came with a socket 478 motherboard. now i cant tell you for sure if your new processor is the same socket, but if it is, then it could work. there might be some compatibility issues with the core type and the FSB speed (note that website) but since i dont know exactly what chip you have, i cant be certain.

Yea the cpu is socket 478. i was just wonderin if it would like blow my motherboard if i popped it in there...but thanks for that website bro!

It should be fine. You may need to update the bios to recognise it though.

Ok, found a program, my mainboard is a "Intel Corporation D845EPT2" and its 487 pin and everything, im thinkin it should work.
