Are you the kind fo person who likes to keep your games, and play them on a new version on the console when possible? Well if you are, I would think again before getting rid of your old console.

Microsft's Peter Moore stated that for their newest console, the X-Box 360, backwards compatibility would be ditched, meaning if you plan on getting rid of your old X-Box, but keeping your games, you are in trouble.

Basically, you will not be able to play these, as Microsoft say it is 'too complicated. Here is the statement released:

"Nobody is concerned anymore about backwards compatibility. We under promised and over delivered on that. It's a very complicated thing... very complex work. I'm just stunned that we have hundreds of games that are backwards compatible."

He added: "more are coming, but at some point, you just go, there's enough, let's move on, or people aren't as worried about a game being backwards compatible - and I like to think we've upheld our end of the bargain in making at least two or maybe three hundred games backwards compatible."

Wow.... thats a bit bold so say basically that nobody cares about backwards compatibility isn't it?

woh cares? I care. I gave my old xbox away when I got the 360. This was a couple weeks before last Christmas. I then got a game on Christmas (prince of persia) that turns out to be made for the xbox and not 360. I guess I will never get to play it. bastards. [banghead]

Yet another reason to hold out for the PS3, as if the higher specs and multitude of better features arent enough...

I see what you mean, yet I would really rather know that my money isn't really wasted. So I wanted to play one my old games, I would have to play it on the other console. I mean, lets face it, who wants to have to chop and change their consoles when they can just do everything from one?

I'm buying an xbox 360 later in the year when the price drops and wont be stupid enough to give away my old xbox now that i've tested the xbox games on my mates 360, some crash at every autosave, some lag, some are just totally unplayable.

That guy is trying to make out that its a miracle so many games are backawards compatible? I say from the playability factor none are backwards compatible and they promised what they clearly could not deliver and so did a half-assed job and then ran away. Bit of a rouge trader is this Microsoft.

MS must have changed there company policy, they're no longer trying to dominate and take over the world!! [sleeping] They're kinda leaving this door open for sony to capitalise on. Is PS3 compatible right back to PS1? I would assume yes!

Just one more reason to NOT to buy 360...

I guess the way they're going with Vista gaming (Halo2) What if we Vista wont be able to play older games...Now that would suck...

Ah once again Bill Gates figures I dont need to waste my money. I could buy russia if I wanted. Well apparently xbox doesnt care about the fan base. I still play my tony hawk games from ps1 on my ps2 yes i kept my ps1 just because why would i get rid of it. Well anyways hopefully the Playstation 3 is Backwards compatible.

Peace
