alright, i never did really want to get this game but i did anyways because i had the money. now, i installed the 50,000 cd's that were with it and i play the game for....3 minutes. i got the game to freeze on me 2 times just by shooting at sumone and missing. i get a really high pitched sound...hurts my ears. then i decided to set my graphics card settings to normal. (i had it overclocked) and now i just get freezing... i mean i cant do anything. when i had my card set to normal i got to the desktop but not really. only saw the background and nothing else and the background was all messed up. i think i have direct X 9 whatever. or...actually i have the one that battlefield 2 gave me. whatever one that is. in the dxdiag command that i typed into the Run just now, on the DirectXFiles i have no problems found.

if this has anything to do with my settings in game or my hardware here is everything.

CoD2 Settings: as high as possible on everything (simple enough)

PC Hardware: 1Gb of ram (or 1.5 i ferget)
GeForce6800 Gt Graphics card
Creative Sound Blaster Audio PCI (my crappy little sound card lol)
939 socket 6200 (6200 or so, its around there) 64-bit processor.
running Windows 2000 Pro.

i have no idea whats going on. i will try turning down the game settings i guess. but im not thinking that will help.

alright, so i have updated my graphics drivers and im getting direct x. is there anything else i need to update? as far as i know there hasnt been a new driver for my sound card in forever. i may know about comps but i know nothing of drivers. are there drivers for my motherboard that i need to get? or ram? i just did that stupid auto update that screws up my comp half the time and there was nothing i needed. just media player stuff.

Autoupdate is for windows (your operating system), not for system drivers.

Is your board Nvidia based? (likely but not necessarily with socket 939). You may need updated NForce drivers. You can usually get system drivers from your MB manufacturers web site, or they'll have a link to them.

Back off any and all overclocking you may have....take the system back your most reliable settings.

Memory doesn't have drivers per se, but if you've messed with timings in the bios you need to crank everything back to the original (safe) settings.

alright, my graphics card is at normal. i think my computer overall is normal. but why would a game not like overclocking?

and i have a Asus motherboard. not sure if its nVidia based though. (i have a nVidia graphics card if that makes my motherboard nVidia based)

By definition overclocking means you're running your components at speeds or settings that aren't recommended and are likely or possible to be unstable. They may work fine....or they may not.

I'm not saying overclocking is the problem (it's likely drivers) but when things start going wrong you should set your computer at its most stable settings.

Try this site to track down info on your board:

http://support.asus.com/repair/repair.aspx?root=110&SLanguage=en-us

The Nvidia card is different than the MB chipset, and ASUS runs all sorts of different chipsets.

couldnt find drivers for my MB. i have a Asus A8S-X and the thing i downloaded was sum .pdf tutorial on how to build a computer (have done that so many times) so i think i need driver for MB? i have 9.0c of directX and i just installed what seemed to be the latest driver for my graphics card and it still freezes. i will email activision i guess but is there anything else i can do? every time i set the game settings lower in the game i gain about a minute of play but i dont like lame graphics.
