This is my 4th map, and I've never had this problem before!
Let me first say I am not using Alpha textures, and I have no other MODs/pk3s spoiling my compile.
I am building a tower on a castle with various floors. I created the cylinder for the tower using a 36 sided arbitrary brush 240 units diameter. I cut the inside out with a 228 unit one, leaving a cylinder with a 6 unit thick wall.
THE PROBLEM: Is a 90 degree section of the interia walls textures just go invisible in the game (but not the editor).
The confusing thing is, I have worked out that if I remove all the floors, then the textures are fine!? but if I put just one floor back in place, I get the problem back? (see picture).

As you can see, it's not just the walls that get affected, but a 90 degree corner of the floors as well! (This effect even extends down to the terrian texture as well?)
There is no intersecting of the floors with the walls. All snaps perfectly in a nice fit! (besides, overlapping has never created this problem before?)
As I said, this is the first time I'm messing around with cylinders, and I'm sure it's something to do with that.
I tried to see if this problem was already mentioned in the forums, but to no avail.
Can anyone help please!?
Thank you in advance.

Right, now I'm well confused.
To accomplish de_vice's suggestions, I made a very quick map with the kind of tower I want, with a few floors and door ways cut out.
Then I textured it.
Were there any invisible textures when I compiled... no!
Problem solved...NO!
Just look what’s happening to the textures now! (some of them are stretching!)

Is it simply the case that no one can make cylindrical-like towers in their maps using Radiant!?
Or is there just some simple principle I'm overlooking/not doing?
I hope it's the later, and that some one can help.
Thanks in advance, and thanks for the idea de_vice. |

Quote: ... better use brushes to made towers...
Do you mean you used a tall upright brush, then just copied and pasted it round in to a tower shape. rotating them as you went?
Because if so, I have nothing but problems when I rotate brushes, then try to cut into them.
I need to cut into my tower with door ways and have floors, so players can enter them.
Thanks. |

OK, PROBLEM SORTED!!
After a bit more playing around with it, I found out what the problem was.
As you know, when you cut into a brush, it splits into many different brushes. Well where I had cut into the tower, in some places it had created splinter like brushes. They were tall in the Z co-ordinate, but their X & Y was so small Radiant was giving them measurements of 0 & 0!
Obviously it couldn’t handle this, so I deleted all these, and all my textures are now showing in the game where they should be.
(In the future, I don’t think I’ll make cylinders with as many as 36 sides!)
Thanks for everyone’s help. |
