Tyring to do a compile with the "extra" rather than "fast" parameter, I got the following error message after a number of hours - out of memory allocating light transport block

The map is only partially complete; being a convert of a vCoD one. I have had to replace a number of brushes with models, as the map contained a large number of crates, amongst other things.

But I thought to try a more complete compile to see how it was looking, when the error raised its head.

Does anyone have some info regarding this issue?

This is the actual error I saw:

Building light transport...
20.6% complete, 7:36:21 done, 29:24:15 remaining
Out of memory allocating light transport block



Just for info my PC is an AMD X2 4400+ with 2Gb of memory.

hmmm - thats a new one on me, and without the complete compile log it my be tricky to pinpoint

i can suggest looking for areas that would have multiple lights overlapping, or multiple shadows being cast on the same piece of terrain or vert

i got the same Error in my latest map here is the compile log:


The only strange thing i have found is this (too much vertices not merged, never got that much on any of my maps, 20+ so far)

5733 vertices couldn't be merged because the textures point different ways

Stryder: i can send u the .map file if u want to investigate this issue in a more deep way.

you are running out of temporary memory, and likely hdd space while compiling your map -

solution - clean up your hdd to free up some room

Thx man, but i doubt thats the reason, that HDD has 24GB of free space and i have 2GB RAM :(

I will try to apply textures again and try to fix that vertices not matching.

Or redo the skybox and main parts of the map...rats!

the mismatched vertices/textures...that doesnt cause a compile error

what compile settings are you using for flare?

have you done a lightgrid?

if you look at the system processes and memory usage - i suspect that you are running out of temp memory ... you may be able to lower the requirement by doing a lightgrid if you havent already done so
