The  Sony Computer Entertainment UK MD, Ray Maguire, claims the PS3 is a 'bargain' for consumers.

"I don't think it's an expensive machine; I think actually,it's probably a cheap machine," he commented. "If you think a Blu-Rayplayer by itself might be GBP 600-700, and we're coming in at just GBP 425 -it's a bargain."

"The point is that most people don't realise what they're actually gettingwith PlayStation 3," he said. "Number one, it's a games machine andwe all know that. But also it's a high definition video playback device throughBlu-Ray, and a lot of people don't really understand that part of thefunctionality either. There's a big story to tell people and a lot ofinformation to be taken on board."

 

Wow... from where I am standing, that price is far from a bargain. Ok, well it isn't majorly expensive, but console wise it is. I sure don't want to spend that kind of money of something I can use maybe a few times a day. I spend most of my time on the PC.

I think Playstation 3 is too expensive, I have playstation 1 lol and it kinda s**ks...So I will stay playing computer rather than buy that expensive machine

yeh.... but you have t remember that the Playstation 1 was brought out a long time ago. About 7 years?

There has been alot of development, but you are right, it is too expensive.

The way I see it is that unless I do some serious saving or get a job (which I dont really have time for) I am never going to have enough money to update my PC to "top of the range" standards or buy a top of the range gaming pc because I have more important things to save my money for (such as a car)... The PS3, however is a hell of a lot cheaper than a top of the range gaming pc and it is just as powerful (if not more powerful) so in that respect I think the PS3 is a bargain... Id rather pay £425 than £3000 and if PS3 supports USB mouse and keyboard use (I suck at aiming with controllers on FPS games) then its worth the money for me...
