I am having trouble with getting a water texture to work in COD2. I have a large body of water around an island.

The water acts like water. When you shoot it, it splashes, when you get over your head in it it moves in and out. The problem is that it doesn't look like water on the surface. You can't tell it is there. I used one of the numbered water textures for all sides, then selected the surface and applied the clip_water. The water surface is completely transparent. It does not look like water. There only seem to be two water textures that are not number blocks. Am I missing something?[banghead]

I have done water in COD1 with great success. I can't seem to find the right textures. Can anyone help?

I have never mapped for COD2 but I think works on the same fundementals as CODUO.

1. Draw out one brush with the teture water or water_clip
2. Select a water texture and select the top of the water_clip texure and tetxure it with a water texture.

I have tried all the textures that come up in radiant for water. Does anyone know of any specific texture name that works for the water surface. There are only a couple of water textures that show in radiant.

all the numbered water textures work....

the full brush should be clip_water......then select the top face (control and shift) and apply the (numbered) water texture you want...then PLEASE press "S" and fit the texture....it looks much better and no1 seems to be doing it :S

Thank you, I just discovered that. I had it backwards. Put the clip_water on the brush, then do the surface with the number texture. I will try the fit technique. Thanks for the tip. [jumping][jumping][jumping][jumping][jumping][jumping][jumping]

Maybe I'm missing something. If I apply the clip_water texture to my brush I want to use for water, I can't ctrl-shift click the top. If I press esc to give it another try, the brush disappears. If I leave the brush as clip water, it's transparent and solid when I compile. Still sounds like water, but you have sort of divine intervention happening.

Thanks,

Press "F" to bring up the filters dialog and make sure water is checked. Might be a good idea to have everything checked untill you do not need them checked, that way you will not miss anything.

That's not it, they're all checked. Is there a certain height or brush I'm supposed to use to make the water? I mean I draw a brush and click clip_water with the brush selected, then when I ctrl-click the surface (well, to begin with, it's not selecting anything on the brush, only stuff past the brush, skybox, etc.) then the brush disappears if I let go(pressing esc). The brush covers the bottom half of my map and I have a terrain model that penetrates the surface I want to look like water.

If I make the brush filled completely with any other texture it stays present... (the numbered water textures, caulk, etc.) it's only the clip_water texture (and clip_water_player) that make the brush disappear when I deselect it. I can also walk across it when I compile.

-Thanks,

Oh, duh, sorry about that. Water was checked, but clip was not. That's why it was disappearing when I let go because I had it set as a water clip.

Thanks for your help.

LOL the amount of times I've had clip off and gone mental wondering where all my transparents were :)
