Ok, I have no clue what I ddi/didn;t do, but I can;t seem to open my map. I had been working on it all day with no problems. I have saved it as I went and have closed the editor several times throughout the day and reopened it no problem.
However, this last time, I compiled it to take a look at the progress which I have been doing all along and noticed that none of my recent changes showed. I went to open my map in Radiant and now I can't open it. When I try I get a message that pops up that says:
ParseEntity: { not found
GetLastError ()=0
An unrecoverable error has occured. Would you like to rdit preferences before exiting Q3Radiant?
I look in the preferences but see nothing that will help me open the map. I have put a lot of time and work into this map so far (several weeks worth) and if it is lost, it is going to kill me to have to start all over again. Can anyone help me with this?

well, that didn;t seem to work. I ran the program and drug my map into it as the readme suggested and this is what I got:

Did not modify C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 2\map_source\mp_cod2_cassino.map

This is the map that will not open now and I am getting the error with. Am I going to have to start all over again?

Did you try opening the autosave.map in \Activision\Call of Duty 2\bin ?

It sounds more like a radiant error than a map error. Try uninstalling the tools - you'll need to remove some registry keys aswell, but i don't remember what they are off the top of my head.

If all else fails, uninstall cod2 & radiant, then search the registry for all occurrances of 'activision' and delete the lot.

Well, I too have a corrupt map. It happened after copying several brushes/models, though I didn't notice until the next day. My program was set to autosave. (Not any more!) When I open the map I get:

ParseEntity: { not found
GetLastError() = 5
An unrecoverable error has occured. Would you like to edit Preferences before exiting Q3Radiant?

This was the same error that I got when I pasted the brushes/models in the night before. I didn't know the program saved it.

I have tried the fix197 and fix197a programs, but the message tells me the file has not been modified.

All my other maps open properly in radiant. I did have a backup from a couple days earlier, and it opens properly.

It sounds like there is not a fix for this yet, but I wanted to report the problem.

all is not lost...

you can open the .map file in a text editor and look for the missing {

it is tedious - but you can accomplish it this way too

Thanks StrYdeR, but I think I will just go back to my backup and redo every thing for the last day. I do have a backup and it is fairly complete. [banghead]. Maybe I will even come up with something better in the process.

I would like to reiterate to mapmakers your advice about maiking backups. Just make a copy and past it in the same folder guys. it is a simple step that will save you future headaches. While doing COD maps, I ended up with a corrupt map file on several occasions, so it is not unusual for that to happen.

By the way, StrYdeR, thanks for your great advice on all the various forum topics.
