My map works fine in testing but I get the dreaded "G_spawn:no free entities" error message at the map loading screen when I try the .iwd version.
Apparently it's because I have singleplayer elements in my map but;
a. what are they, how are they recognized, and
b. how do I get rid of them?

SP entities are stuff made for SP.

Stuff like.. vehicle_nodes... player_info_starts...

you get rid of them by deleting them from your .map file and recompiling.

There should be no difference between loading if your map is in an iwd or not. Both should work the same.

Make sure you've removed your .d3dbsp and .gsc files from your /maps/mp folder, because CoD2 might be getting confused if the map can be found in both an .iwd file and in the /maps/mp folder.

The sigleplayer elements are listed in your error

example
Code:
 987: 'node_cover_left', origin: 292.000000 -1704.000000 56.000000


gives you the entity number,name, and coordinates you can then use misc>find brush to locate it.

thanks for the responses.

I'll move the .bsp file out of the folders as you suggested.
I didn't add any SP elements (that I'm aware of). It's only models from the xmodel folder and prefabs from the prefab folder and some dm and tdm spawn points.

Veef;
there is no error number or reference number simply the statement "G_spawn:no free entities" at the map loading screen.

Ok if you still get that error could you post the entire console here, and are you running in devmode or normal?

Erm, I'm not using the console, wouldn't know how.
For testing I "Start Server" and make sure Dedicated is off. Then using the 'tilde' key I type in "map mp_mymapname" and hit enter. The map loads up and I select a side and then spawn, no problems.
After I create the .iwd file with the .gsc and the .arena file I start the game normally, Start Server again making sure Dedicated is 'off', my map is now on the list of maps. I select it, click Start, the gray checkered screen appears with my map name at the top and the loading bar at the bottom which barely gets started then the "G_spawn; no free entities" pops up. The REALLY annoying thing is that to make any slight change I have to then go through the slow compiling process again (minimum 20 mins).
I'm getting to the end of my rope on this, it's really frustrating.

Veef/Caretaker;
just noticed something. Once that error is created I get the same problem with any other map I try to test despite the fact that they worked perfectly well in testing before!!
Things that make you go.................arrrrrrrrrrrrrrghh![banghead]


OOOps spoke too soon, I just tried my very first simple map in test mode and it started no prob.

hmmmm If u have prefabs from SP mode enter on it and edit,, remove all NODES :P

A prefab is just a prefab it can be used in single or multiplayer, but some of them do contain singleplayer elements inside. There is no way of knowing unless you enter the prefab and look.
