I have followed several tutorials (jdawg etc) about making terrain. Ive got the gist of the terrain mesh and making craters etc BUT in his video tutorial ( I think its origionally for CodUO) the brush he seems to use has " terrain" written on it ??

Let me try to make this clear and please tell me if im doing this the right way.

When i wanna make a piece of terrain i go to

Patch>Simple terrain patch>15x15 ( or whatever)
Draw the terrain to the size i want ( now comes the confusing bit ) The terrain patch i draw is always drawn with whatever texture i currently have selected, for example .... Calk.....

Now i make all my walls and structures with Calk first before adding the required texture ie brick or stone ( or whatever )

But WHAT should i have selected when i make a simple terrain patch ??? There is a texture called aadefault, which is just grey and has default written on it..... do i use that or do i also use Calk for terrain. I hope this makes sence coz i dont seem to be able to see any obvious texture called just terrain ???

See my screenie for what i mean. The red circle is where i access my simple terrain patch and the arrow shows the texture that is drawn depending what is selected ITS THAT BOX I WANNA KNOW WHAT SHOULD BE SELECTED

If all you are doing is working on the terrain height it doesn't matter. If you are trying to blend textures and stuff then you have to have the ground texture(what ever ground text you want)selected.

For example: when I first do my terrain to decied how high or low I want it, I just use caulk. When I return to do the final detailing of my terrain then I decied on my textures and such. Then add them in and move onto alpha blending.

Thanx m8y, thats what i wanted to hear. I wasnt worried about the final look of the terrain ie road, field, crater or whatever, I just wanted to make sure that I wasnt supposed to use a specific texture ( like you do with Calk for the walls ) and find out after a lot of hard work that i had used the wrong thing
