Ive heard that GTk is not very good with SOF...Is that the case..I like SDK but it seems to have too many probs. I have reinstalled it too many times. Is gtk a better bet or no...I am just looking for a more stable program...If not i guess im just S.O.L.... [tired]

gtk is easier to setup, but tends to run slower. I would rather take my time setting up the sdk properly than have to work slowly with gtk.

I agree with Foyleman. I loaded up XP Pro on my old standby. 450mhz, 384mb ram. I am wanting to run the editor on a separate pc due to the fact of the compile process using up all the resources. I went with what qeradiant was a stable version of GTK along with the stabe update. It is really easy to install. No extracting of pk3 files etc. Loading of textures is extremely slow even if you set the quality down low. Say if you loaded up the Airport textures it was extremely slow. Also I heard that there was some resource problems if you didn't flush the textures each time you loaded up. Like if you loaded up Airport and then later loaded up Colombia you might have resource problems.
On the SDK side it is whole lot faster on loading textures and for some reason it compiles faster also.
GTK and SDK install in different Directories so you could install both and compare the differences in performance.

yeah, thanks...I think SDK will do for now, I may start doing mapping for other games GTK supports later on. For now, SDk is workin for me. as long as it doesnt keep breaking on me.. [devilishgrin]

I installed both. GTK's camera is a lot more flexible which makes things get done much faster. Then once I make the map I save it and open it in SDK to compile. SDK compiles way faster. And it also loads up custom textures without any problems.

I am working on a level right now and it is approximately 500k at the present time. It is compiling in around 12 seconds. Running 90 FPS.
This is using GTK 1.3.7 dev. Ambient light is set at 200 for build purposes. The only problem I see right now is the texture load takes too long. Will know more about the compile time as the brush and texture load increases.

i use gtk 2.12 and sdk 1.02 setup as in the tutorial -- do the real work in sdk and compile from gtk, the gtk lighting is a much better quality so i do lighting from gtk -- ive got a huge map with all new textures, shaders, and im workin on new models for it too, this will be awesome once i finally get it done, been working on it slowly since sof2 release lol it will be for the mandown mod and have rotating doors and other improvements like remote cameras as they become available for mandown [smokin] both of my radiants have been rock stable! maybe its because i dont load all of the texture sets though... i only load my own custom texture set of about 35 textures. i do know if i load many texture sets it will bog down and sometimes crash
