I can't seem to find the "Creating a skybox" tutorial again even using the search function.
I followed it once and created what appears to be a nice skybox with a spawnpoint. However, on compiling it craps out. I'd like to review the tutorial to see where I went wrong. One thing in the tutorial when it says to enter the "mp_carentan sky" it's not possible as the window is greyed out, the only option I had was something called "sky test". I used one of the worldspawn data list from the posted list in the forums but I'm guessing the two items are incompatible and that may be causing my compile error but I need the tutorial to check it.

choose your sky texture by going to Usage>Sky. You can find the right worldspawn settings for your sky here[thumbs_up]

OK, I did that and it looks fine in the Radiant 'view' window but when I compile I get an "Assertion Failure" and the following popup text;

Expression:
g_progress.total
Module: D:\Program Files|Activision|Call of Duty2|Bin|cod2rad.exe
File: .\print.cpp
Line: 105
:

Everything looks OK, perhaps my skybox is too small for the worldspawn etc data??

Ok, well that is an error i am extremely confused about... i have had it happen to me several times. I do not know what it is but when i tried using a diffrent skybox and diffrent worldspawn settings i was able to get it to work. Maybe someone else knows more about this error?

for your skybox select all the brushes(not the bottom) and then click on the sky you want . The sky will show up on the brushes even though they don't in the texture window.

Fireball; yup, I understand that. That part is not the problem, it's when I try to compile.

Apocalypse;
I've changed my sky to "breakout" and used the "breakout" worldspawn settings in the popup when you press N.
I'm assuming that I enter the values without the quotes " and that I leave the spaces between the numbers
i.e.
top line would read suncolor not "suncolor"
bottom line would read 0.3 1.5 not 0.31.5

Hope that makes sense. I'll try another sky setting and world settings but I'm not confident and am getting a little frustrated that I can't get past this apparently simple operation.

Make sure you are applying the caulk texture to every brush of your skybox, all sides and all 6 brushes, before you apply the sky textures. Only apply the sky textures to the 6 inside brush surfaces and have all of them selected when you enter the worldspawn settings. Last, but not least, check every skybox brush and make sure it is sealed up good with no overlapping brushes. Either miter the corners or only connect the inner edges. I found if you zoom in really close, sometimes you see that two brushes are not fully together.
Hope this helps.

Woohoo!
Gents, thanks for the patience and assistance. I had a spawnpoint in my skybox staring me in the face.
[duh]
Once I'd deleted that she compiled no probs. I was able to access the map from the console in-game and look around etc. I couldn't move around but I'm assuming that's because it's a simple skybox with no 'extras' at the moment.]
Thanks again and rest assured I'll have more dopey questions.....watch this space!!! LOL.

BTW, what would you recommend as a good size for a skybox considering I'd like to stick in a few prefab buildings eventually?

The skybox I constructed to contain my map is 6144 X 6144 with a height of 768. Those are the units in CoD2Radiant editor. I'm making a large map with 3 large areas.
The skybox surrounds your map and none of your map touches the skybox. It is like your map is suspended inside the skybox. Just make sure your skybox is larger than your map and the skybox height is tall enough to put in some buildings especially if you have a tower or hill or tall structure.
