I need a bit of help again, my map is almost done, and it's supposed to be very dark, the problem is that the models don't get processed by the lightning compiler, and glow up because of this. (and yes, I tried various light compiling options: fast, extra, none selected, verbose, modelshadow and a combination of the above.) [for the record, I DO have 'Compile lightning' checked].
Raising the ambience won't work out for me, cuz the map is supposed to be dark. Also, not only the static models, but also the player is glow-in-the-dark (Like he is on some sort of uranium diet :P )

My worldspawn settings:

"northyaw" "180"
"sunlight" ".67"
"suncolor" ".5 .52 .55"
"ambient" "0.1"
"_color" "0.596078 0.905882 0.686275"
"sundirection" "-60 245 0"
"diffusefraction" "0.4"
"sundiffusecolor" "0.15 0.21 .6"
"classname" "worldspawn"

BTW, I browsed the forum, but think my case is different from the other model posts.
I do NOT think it's a directx7 problem, since in the normal maps my player does change brightness when walking in the shadow.
Also, I already made another test map to test various other (official) worldspawn settings, those showed the same effect, you guys are my last resort.

Anyone got a suggestion?

Try a "Vclog" yet?

Check off on the compiler "Models collect dots". And change to "Start New Grid". Click Start Grid, and your map will load.

Collect the dots where the player is able to go, that will tell the engine where lighting is needed (from what I understand and saw in my map).

When you're done, exit out of your map. You should have a mapname.GRID file, contains the dots collected.

Recompile your map, and presto, lighting should be all better.

Not sure if this is your case, but it might be.

Thanks alot man, that seems to have done the trick [biggrin]
BTW, when I recompile, the grid file dissapears, is it merged into the bsp now? If I edit the gridfile, will it be extracted from the bsp, and my additional dots added up?

My map is pretty huge, and I'd like someone else to do some decoration and stuff in my map so its my concern that I have to send him the 45 MB bsp too, instead of a 100KB grid file :)

Thanks again!

This looks to be the same problem I am having. I have a basic small test map and the lighting works great for everything. My player (arm and gun) on the other hand looks like he is in a room with all the lights on even when he is in a area that is total black. When I throw a nade or smoke on the ground in the dark area I can see them as if it were bright in there. I tried to run that Grid File thing and all I get is a popup with "Please Insert the correct CD/DVD, select OK and restart application". Any Clue???
