A few small but useful things.

You probably noticed that lining things up is difficult - go to misc, colours and choose. Inverted usually works great.

Important things to have enabled in preferences -

1. Make sure auto save is on. The time is up to you but dont make ity any longer than 5 mins.
2. Raise the undo levels. You will be surprised how many times you see something you did wrong 10-20 moves ago.

And last thing - Filter settings is your friend, it firstly reduces video card pressure and you can use it to find things when your maps getting full.

There is a good tutorial on them in the CoD tutorial section. And you can find the stock map settings in the CoD2 tutorial section.

10. I made a loading screen and put it in right but yet it shows a green and blue image instead when I load a map why ? Did you make a Shader for the image. A Shader also know as a Materials file is needed for CoD2 from my understanding. Every image must have a Materials (Shader) file in order for CoD2 to read the image. You will need a HEX editor to make one.
actually this is wrong

take a look at the textures tutorials that i have put up regarding this, as the mod tools came bundled with the asset manager to do these conversions for you

18. Do not overload your map with models.

19. Learn how to texture and light things correctly. Make it look good.

20. Use common sense! Think! How would this look like in real life? Would they really put an MG42 there? Simple questions like these will consideranbly improve your map.

21. Listen to some good tunes while you map. (i.e. TOOL)

some words of advice that i can share

learn to use the editor and all of its tools (and where each tool can be used safely)

draw your brushes and mitre the corners using the edge tool to draw back the corners to form the angles required

stay away from any csg functions, they are usually a shortcut to disaster, especially if you start depending on them

stay away from using the vertices manipulator on brushes...it never produces the results you want

leave snap to grid on

learn to use the clipper in both the 2 point and 3 point clip mode

practice using the tools before you decide to build something...people with no experience dont rush out and buy a whole bunch of tools at the hardware store and try and make a house if they have absolutely no experience...to a certain extent you can learn as you go..but you will likely be happier with the end result if you show up prepared

never be afraid to try something different, but dont be disappointed if it doesn't work...and dont let it swell your head too much if it does work

This is a page showing the destruction of a number of 40's era buildings - it may be good reference material for bombed out buildings and such.

Hint: Building Rotation

If you have a complicated building that when rotated gets screwed up, the answer is simple: Make it a prefab - Then Rotate it

Also for more on prefabs - Use 'search' or scan the tutorials.

Want an idea for a map... I have 3 World War 2 History books which pictures give me alot of inspiration, but Google, Films, Drawing etc can lead to a great starting point for a map.
