Ive just compiled my old failed project: DHI Utah Beach and before I compiled it I added a few higgins boat models (they looked fine in the editor) but ingame the Higgins Boat becomes a modern racing car with mg turrets all over it!?!?!?!?

I expect its a little too early on to ask what the hell happened but I thought it was worth a shot... It was worth posting for the comical value anyway... [devilishgrin]

Maybe the higgins boat models have a name of a model in CoD2 that was never used for reasons we can see lol. I found models in CoD and CoD:UO that were never used and there resaons why when you look at some of them.

I think ive found the problem... After adding a load of other models to my map it looks like only vehicle models are affected... The racing car turns out to be the default vehicle model (the default weapon model is a horses head lmao)... Anyone else had this problem? Anyone else had this problem & solved it?

The horse is a known "egg". It appeared already in the demo. It's, as Tim suggested, the default model for a model which has been added, but has no model file associated with it.

Or in other words.. the higgins model you used won't work probably.

I know it's an old topic but in case anyone else is wondering and if it's not solved yet i can just tell you this, Try adding "xmodel" folder in your map.iwd or mod.iwd depends witch you like if you add in mod then map will work properly once inside the mod if map alone it will have this default race car. I would recommend adding it to map.iwd

So as i said make xmodel folder in it then inside that folder place the original Higgens file that you are using if its normal or destroyed so that the game can detect the model inside your map.iwd and use it.

Heres an example:

If you in editor added model called character_ally then it will search for it but if model that you add is called character_allies or anything else it will not work as it will not detect it by name so you need to call the xmodel same as it was named in editor but if you added:

vehicle_higgens then thats the model you have to find and use in the map.iwd in order to work its so with many of cod 2 cod4 and cod5 models.


Cod 2 its default race car
Cod 4 don''t remember now
Cod 5 some white and blue lady with helmet big head small body like a bobble head

Hi in response to your recent post on this question, the reason why this happens Ive no idea, however I would guess that its a feature of the game to have moving models for the vehicles or its to do with the difference between single player and multiplayer.

However to solve this you have to pick a model that has _static at the end of the file name. This then allows them to be shown as the proper model when the map is compiled.

It doesnt always effect the vehicles. Ive found it also applies to the mortar model as well.

So search for models with the _static at the end and all of your weird racing car model issues will be solved :)
