Got a question...I have used cod, cod uo on a desktop pc for a while and

I just recently bought a laptop and i installed cod and cod uo, i tried playing multiplayer and it gives me
"CD key is in use..Please try reconnecting later"...
Now when i saw that, does that mean the key is registered? I think it is..Because i tried the one in the PC and i have no problems in multiplayer..

Any suggestion other then a keygen and buying cod again?

by the way, i'm not asking a way to play cod on desktop and laptop at same time...

Is this on a punkbuster or non punkbuster server, you will be able to get on a punkbuster or non by yourself but you cant go on the same punkbuster server together or you will get kicked.

If you're trying to setup a server to test out something on your map with two machines at the same time, you can use the following to startup CoDUOMP in "loose" mode. (pb_sv_guidrelax 7)

...

SET MAPNAME=tucholaforest
SET MAPVER=078

CD "C:\Program Files\Call of Duty"
CoDUOMP.exe +exec generic_lan.cfg +set dedicated 1 +developer 1 +pb_sv_guidRelax 7 +sv_maprotation "allow_tanks 1 gametype bas map mp_uo_%MAPNAME%_%MAPVER%" +map_rotate

...

Otherwise, it means exactly what it says it means. You were trying to play using the same CD key on two different machines at the same time. As long as your desktop PC isn't running, you can use the laptop and vice-versa.

Hey WuphonsReach..when you said

does that mean the desktop pc has to be off like no power, like shut down?

It should work as long as the other PC isn't running CoD.

Just buy another CoD... they only cost like $15-$20 nowadays.

I have one desctop with two hard drives on it, on the first hard drive i have cod 1.4
and on the second i have 1.5
I have installed from the same cd just on the second installation I upgraded to 1.5

and I dont have any problems.
So as everyone said before...you should not get an error as soon as you run CoD just on one computer and not simultaneously on both machines

try enter an invalid key on the desktop..and store it...
then try to connect on the laptop.. not sure if that could do anything though
If you make it to connect to the laptop, put the cd key on the desktop as well, this might make it to work on both pcs.

-Be sure that your computer is not behind a software or hardware firewall of any kind. This includes firewalls built into routers or other equipment, as well as programs like Zone Alarm, Black Ice, and the integrated firewall in Windows XP.

-Another common cause of problems is a poorly configured router or connection sharing solution. If you are using a router, ICS, NAT or a software gateway you may have problems playing on the internet. This is because the router may not be forwarding the correct information back to your machine. It may be possible to get around this problem using port forwarding or DMZ. You can find more information on configuring shared connections for multiplayer gaming at www.practicallynetworkd.com.

You may also want to clean out any old and outdated PK3s from your UO or Main folder.
