Hi Guys,

I'm just getting started with map making for Doom III and while making my first room I was not able to see a light I placed while in render mode in the editor. If I save the map, compile it, then run it, the light is there.

Why can't I preview it while I'm in render mode in the editor? Thanks in advance for any replies! :)

What do you mean by not being able to see the light? Do you mean that it is not casting light and shadows?

Also, what video card are you using?

Hi foyleman,

I can see the light (the little geometric shape), but it does not cast any light when I try to view it in the editor while in render mode. The room is just black.

My system is dated. It's an ATI Radeon 9700 PRO, AMD Athlon XP 2600+, 1GB PC2100 RAM. All latest drivers.

Thanks!

In the editor, (hopefully the commands are similar between quake4 and doom 3) for render mode hit F3 and F4. One is for realtime render while the other is just render. There is also another key to update the lighting, however with realtime enabled, you shouldn't need it.

Now, I ask about the video card because narc was having a bad time with his ATI card and the way it rendered lighting. I don't know much more about that. Take a look at your editor menu options for more things you can do with rendering in the editor.

Also... rendering may not work if you stretch your editor across more than one monitor. [ohwell]

I was using the F3 key for rendering, I wasn't aware that the F4 key was also a render key (I'm new at this) so I'll check that out.

I am only using one monitor.

Thanks for the input! [wave]
