IDEMA, the International Disk Drive, Equipment, and Materials Association, has announced the results of an industry committee assembled to identify a new and longer sector standard for future magnetic hard disk drives (HDDs). This Committee recommended replacing the 30 year-standard of 512 bytes with sectors having ability to store 4096 bytes.

So do we think we will just be able to hook up one of these drives with our standard IDE hookup. I don't think so. More than likely it will not work with our legacy mainboards which come equipped with IDE only. I beleive most of the newer MB's are coming with IDE and SATA. Then you got the MB's that are coming out with stricktly SATA. No telling what will be on the MB's in the future for this new technology. Of course we probably won't be able to afford the new drive's for a while.
I thought it was pretty amazing when we got the 200 gig drives and up in the same size package. I just got a 30 gig IPod and this thing is like 1/4 inch thick.
But I am sure we will not see this new drive technology in the IDE area.
