I noticed the poll asking about a modsonline community based mod project and thought i'd start this thread.
If there is anyone interested pop a reply to this thread and we can maybe start thinking about it.

List things like your area of skill, experience level, and any ideas your cooking up...
I'll start the ball rolling:

I'm an experienced coder/scripter with some ability in mapping and modeling. Also not afraid to try my hand at most things.

The things i would like to see in a cod2 mod is realism, some of the stuff out of UO that has been robbed from cod2, and something that will premote more teamwork and less of the - join server - shoot gun - leave server - mentality that goes on in most public servers.
Also I'd love to see a scoring system that actually works instead of just kills!?! i mean how hard is it to reward someone for defending?? or pulling off good kills??

what's the difference between a kill and a good kill?

and there is alternate scoring. you get points for capping a flag, i think you get points for planting or defusing. only thing you don't get a point for is setting up or breaking down a hq.

There isnt really a good scoring system that works better for players than just kills. In CoD2 only points other than kills is

Cap Flag=10
Return Flag=2

Thats it, there are mods that give players points for certain things like defusing/planting. With mod on our server i give players 3 points for defuse/plant and 3 points for defending flag or assisting flag carrier. Why do i give them points? Because these 4 tasks do need a little guts or some teamwork. Its not a big deal but alot more people try to plant now, brings out the gametype alot more too.

vCoD SD=Is all about the kills, some many 1000's of matches i have played was down soley to kills.
If you want killing go play TDM.
CoD:UO SD=The gametype is being played as SD, which is nice. ALOT more planting and defusing. Granted you still need the kills, but the objective of the game is to plant/defuse.

So many times i have been called a "flag wh*re" on COD2, and i say to all the people that call me one, why do you think i finish top of score borad? Not because im a "flag wh*re", because its CTF your meant to capture the dman flags.

People should get rewarded for taking risk and showing some level of gameplay.

Thats what its about...

Extra points for kills at distance
Kills at speed
Killing someone who was in mid air
Headshots
bashes
multi kills (so many times i've done the one man army thing and what do you get? f all!)
Preventing people from getting your flag (defending)
helping out teammates (teammate getting shot and you kill the guy hurting your mate)
Protecting the flag carrier

I could think of hundreds....

I am a total neophyte when it comes to designing butr am learning.
I more than likely would be a hindrance to a mod making team but can test.

As for scoring, somebody mentioned you want points for kills play TDM or DM, how's this sound...

NO POINTS for kills in any mode but those I mentioned.

You can still kill but you get more points for capturing a flag and getting it to your base, if you are one of a specific number "escorting" the flag bearer, you get points also.

HQ, capture HQ, defend it, get points BUT kills don't count other than keeping players at bay.

Catch my drift?

Why not just make a new scoring system that seperates the objective points from the kill points. That way you keep everyone happy. Have score/kills/deaths. Basically the same as DOD, which I think is a better scoring system. You can still do points for escorting/defusing and such, but this way you can still see the pure kills. I am into teamwork and objective type games, so the kills just come with clearing the way in my opinion. But I still like to see how well I did (or how bad...lol) with kills.
