I see lots of posts about how to correcting issues or how to complete a specific task..but nothing yet on the sharing of good ideas (or dumb ones too)

So I thought id post a few ideas I have and see if anyone has done it, is interested in doing it, or just to find out if it CAN be done.

These are just 'specials'..just for fun in COD or CODUO

IDEA #1 - a swinging lightbulb
----------------------------------------------------------
In a cellar or basement...a lightbulb (forget the xmodel name) with the light entity and corona. It hangs at head level

The light swings (pendulum/rotates) when a player passes under it..then slows to a stop and awaits the next player to pass it.


IDEA #2 - Flying barrels
------------------------------------------------------------
Ive seen (and used) exploding barrels (BENZINE model).
What about a barrel that expldes when hit (triggered by projectiles, explosion, splash, or even flame).
This barrel would launch into the air with flames streaking from it..then fall back to the surface and THEN explode..

Nice ideas.. The 'flying barrels has been done. Have a look at laurameagan site! He made a tutorial on there!

I'd love to see swinging lights that just sway a bit constantly & that also flicker (ive never seen flickering lights in CoD) (I recall it being in RTCW though)... I really like the barrels idea too (probably because the word benzin reminds me of Rammstein)...

The lightbulb fx could be possible to some extent, but getting it to rotate and swing in a realistic manner would be tricky.
I just came up with a scenario in my head that would work ok,
a trigger would start a small earthquake shake on the player, then start some falling dust fx from the ceiling, then as the shaking is just about to stop rotate the light model back and forth a few times with a descending level of movement.

I have a prefab and custom fx for barrels, but they dont fly, the fx instead has a lot of debris that shoots up in the air and then falls back to the ground and bounces a few times.

Tim...there is at least one (maybe 2) Tutorials that can assist with the flickering lights part...Sparks fly from blown out lights and a sound effect to accent the sparks.

SweeT..a large artillery barrage (or something) to trigger it.
Could possibly set it to trigger at random point in the round...so its not always at the same time each round
dust from the ceiling...nice detail touch.

This is a brilliant post by horseman, and wow, some great idea's already coming to light.......(pardon the pun)

Mind you, someone posted here (wont mention any names) lol ....but he's keeping very quiet about his magnificent invention of a "bovine launching trebuchet" [tongue]

IDEA #3 --- Roving 'Spotlight'

Had this idea tossed at me last night while testing a new map.
What about a couple large spotlights (light connected to an Info_null). Script these to move around a bit in the area to appear as if they are moving.
Maybe use the 'Light_house' (scaled down) efx for the light beam.

Dont know yet, but im gonna try to work on this in the next few days, as it would augement my new map nicely.

Ok ok, I will chop up the map that it's in as I'm not going to finish it, and add all my other tricks in it. This will be a resource map that you can interact in to see how all this stuff looks in game. And the archive will have all the scripts, prefabs, custom models, custom fx, etc used in the map.
I will even add some criptic blurb from me on how to modify them for your own maps. [devilishgrin]

Re, the spotlight, you would only need to rotate the light I think.

stuck for ideas and inspiration? switch to another editor. doom3 and quake 4 both use radiant and u can do some freakin amazing stuff too!

soooooo refreshing to get out of CoD for a bit.
