Hex Editors?

I have seen alot of sp to mp maps being made lately.

From what i hear they are done by using a program called Hex Editor?

Well from what i understand, this is a program used to *Hack* the bsp files and change things.

So if what im thinking is correct, our maps we create for cod 2 are gonna be vunerable to the guys who want to edit our maps??

If this is true, then i would think this program is gonna cause a hell of alot of trouble for us.

Unless I'm mistaken a Hex Editor does nothing that cannot be done by just opening up a file in Notepad, only it formats what's inside and makes it easier to edit. Maps now are in no more jeopardy than they were before.

I have been getting the general feeling that the maps are insecure. I think that this will be a big issue. But I thought that the SP maps have completly different characteristics to mp maps.

Well maybe ur right

but... i dont remember hearing anything about a hex editor being used in cod or cod uo, the only things i remember seeing done was people changing textures on maps. Like dawnville_snow.

But then again a neuville_ctf come out for uo not that long ago, which meant the guys insert ctf into a map, but wheather this was done by hacking the bsp, i do not know.

Im just worryed now that all these people that dont respect mappers will all download this hex editor and start playing around with our maps and releasing there own versions, which would pee-pee me and alot of other people off

I might be wrong, but I think I saw someone add CTF into a map not long ago via a script.

Apparently id, raven and valve don't care too much because their compiled maps for doom 3, quake 4 and HL2 only need compiling for additional elements and utilize the .map file for level generation in the game.

Hex Editors are handy little tools, they have been around for sometime and will never go away,
Yes all bsp files are vunerablr to the hex editor.
And Hex editing is no harder than editing a text file
the program just makes compiled data accessable and your able to change it or remove it.
