bit of history here !!! if hex editors wouldnt exsist the pc wouldnt been here.. i can still remember that i started to program on my Exidy scorcer long time ago... (25 years or more) PC didnt exsist that time.. then basic came wow that was a revolution.... we stored our software of gigantic size 10 kb on cassete tapes.. dunno if the youngsters know what they are ?? lol only thing they know is CD's lol showed me littleboy the otherday some real records.. he really was wondering what it was.... anyway my excidy had 64 kb ram and it could never be fully used .. there were simple no programs that big around..... where is tht time tht when you had a 80 mb harddrive you never could fill it hahahahahhah so dont worrie aboutthe HEXEDITORS its just like notepad only split screen with one side text in ascii and the other side HEX or even sometimes binary...

binary .. language in 1's and 0's
hex .. language in 0 till 9 and follow with A to F... 0 is 0 F is 15 and 10 is 16 lol to make it difficult

so dont worrie and happy mapping!!!..... btw anyone seen the editor for COD2 or else i got to find me self a HEXEDITOR coz i found this cool map called sam site for CODUO which i would like to modify dont know who made it but i think he wouldnt mind if i made it look a bit better lol (JK ricsta wont toutch it hahahaahahahahah)

One note on this hex editting of maps..

If you do it on a custom map at least have the courtesy (sp?) to ASK the original maker of the map and live by what he says.. (Most likely he/she will say no, but at least you won't be making enemies all over the world...)

As for getting old.. A while ago I had to explain my brother what vinyl was... and he didn't know DOS commands... that's progress for you, fastlane (and all you other oldies out there)...

LOAD, CoD_MP, 8,1

If my memory serves me right..
heheh [biggrin]

Ok ladies and gentlmen I have not been the most active poster or the longest member however I have joined to assist and enhance the community rather than add to its demise.
Hex editing: past experience use by desperate less talented players to exploit certain "exploitable" issues within mohaa.
Other "good" uses:
As a mohaa map designer with simple hex editing then the said map could be made available in mohaa/spearhead/breakthrough.-this,for me was a positive thing, how it effects the state of the gameplay within the cod community only you guys will know....but sufice to say there was a few exploits that could be gained via hex editing.
I admire what the guys are doing as regards converting SP maps into MP maps but as far as my admiration goes, this is not realy showing any talent or initiative, this is purely taking the easy way out and exploiting (all be it for the community) a loop hole as such within the game.
As a map maker (damn I try)... And as many other talented people on here that make maps....do you not feel a little cheated to read the ridiculous post of "NEW CUSTOM COD 2 MAP" only to find its a revamped/scripted/hex edited version of the origional that was shipped?
Now whilst not doubting the talent of the people that converted these maps I still think that this is the easy way out rather than creating something new and superior in comparson when ,and if we get the tools.

Sorry guys n girls...just my opinion critisism of what I have said is welcome as long as constructive.

Thankyou for the vote of support ßŔ3NT, I whole heartedley believe that if not the patches then the dedicated support & endevours of this community will encourage us to keep this alive.
On a boring note-mapping for mohaa for 3 years with reasonable success, I want to bring what I may have to offer to COD now....preferably cod2 but in the meantime cod.
I'm going to sound extremely full of myself but I promise you I won't dissapoint------> hehe theres a man to be shot at eh!

Well I'm sure these guys would rather be creating new maps instead of converting sp to mp. But do you see the tools to do that yet, no I didn't think so. So bringing a few conversions into the game, so we can all play some different maps is a pretty cool project at this point. So I think you should get off your high mapping horse and cut them some slack. They are just trying to keep us all occupied until the tools come out. I don't think they are trying to make a career out of it. What are you doing to keep things from getting a little boring anyway? Anything? I thought so.

well said agro... reading the whole post and all topics around it would clearly showed that we dont want or support hexediting but its the only thing some of us do to keep the COD2 alive.. as the editor and the patch keep us waiting for.

it would cleary made a point that we want to make custom maps for COD2 but we simply dont have the tools yet to do so.....

Yes i think nearly every mapper here fills this way, maybe if they was released by actual cod mappers here, then i think they would be appreciated more, as far as i know the people using the hex editors are not actual mappers, or am i wrong?

Yes i understand what your saying, im sure alot of people would agree with this, except if your a cod mapper.

Most the people here dont actually play the game much (like me), we just design, modsonline is basically where us mappers and modders come to play cod, so to see a new map out thats been made by some hex editors, its not gonna get our attention.

Well thats my oppinion, lol

I used a hex editor to edit mp_peaks and other maps for the unreleased Other Fronts Mod to change which models were used. For example changing mp_peaks from American vs. German to Russian vs. Finnish required changing the CTF and DOM flags, as well as the jeep, etc.

Ultimatly there was little I could do though, Hex Editing a map can change a lot about it, but I doubt you could change the brushwork enough to make a new map out of it, only a slightly different version.
