We at Modsonline do NOT advice people to use the CSG tool, because alot of errors with maps come from using it.. it will go right 99 times.. but the 100th time it will screw up your map beyond repair.. we've all been there.. we're speaking from experience. Even the people at IW (who MADE CoD) advice not to use it...

So better not to use it. It's not that hard to cut your own windows, doors and blastholes with the clipper tool anyway.

Absolutly. But all we can do is advise you, but you make your own decisions with your work. If you are the lucky 1 out of a 100 who isn't affected by the csg tool, you can be sure oyu will the next time.

How long have you been using the CSG tool? Have you managed to make a functioning map with it? I doubt it. The tool may seem very useful in the beginning, but if you aren't careful, you'll become addicted to it. You'll start using it all the time, and when THAT happens, its only a matter of time before your map is ruined by a CSG error. There is only ONE piece of good advice regarding CSG: Don't ever, EVER use it. It takes you 5 seconds to make a window with CSG, and you run the risk of ruining your entire map. It takes you 10 seconds to make a window with the clipper tool, and you know you're safe.

Which would you choose?

When I used to be a noob mapper I used it like crazy. But after hearing everyone talk about it I deleted the map and made other ones without csg. Now I just use the clipper tool and cut walls in half and stuff like that to make doorways and windows. It's really not that difficult, there's no reason to risk a whole map just because you want the csg to make you a window. If IW doesn't recomend it, than you really can't argue with that.

The CSG is a very nice tool when you know how to use it.

If you still dont know how to use it then I would be glad to show any of you, even the people who think they are pro's.

In the end they might all need a lesson.

I would have to ask this:
If you can prove that it can be used and not have any risk of producing an error, Why don't you write a tutorial on it and share this wisdom with the entire community?

I can see this thread lasting a long time with very little progress being made! Ok so there a different people with different opinions.

If you want to use CSG, then go ahead, if you don't, then use the clipper! Most of you know what can happen with the CSG function, so you need to make up your own mind.

the gauntlet has been thrown and in one corner we await the "WARLORD"....

maybe he's writing the tut, give him sometime.

Personal experience...1st map, watched Wyatt's tut, he used CSG I did too, I threw map away after third compile for test because of way too many errors all of a sudden.

Clipping can be tedious at worse but is much better way ... [rocking]

Yeah verily the oh mighty "Clipper" [biggrin]
One thing that bugs me about the clipper - and it's probably just me - but for the life of me I can't get the hang of doing a 3D clip!!! [machine_gun] I've looked at the tutes and still can't get it..
