I hadn't really tested this theory until last night....
There is no more "Make Detail" as of Doom III.

Apparently, this function has been depreciated and if you use it in the editor (yes, it's still in the editor), then it does nothing to your map.

As a test last night, I made a map with a single brush and saved it. I then used the "Make Detail" option on that brush and saved it as another name. Opened them both in a text editor and compared. The results were "no change".

What's your option to reducing the splits caused by touching structural brushes? Turn your brush into a func_static entity.

Post if you have other alternatives to this missing functionality.

Is this in response to getting a higher VIS limit for compiling? Or has the higher limit been removed all together?

I don't know cos I don't have Q4, but in old COD structural brushes can only make 3145728 before visdatasize is blown, hence the need for detail brushes.

If there is no visdatalimit or it becomes much higher due to a more powerful games engine, then I guess "detail" would come redundant.
