My son love to make maps for Q4 or any games that has an editor. He wants to do it for aliving some day that would be cool we game alot! He's been trying to get his maps to auto load when he burns them to a disc. Is this possible and if yes what program do you need? Any Help would much appreciated Game on!!!!!!!

To my knowledge, this can't be done. When the game loads a map, it looks for the map beginning at the base installation folder for the game. Since your disk cannot be in that base folder (it's a completely different drive) it cannot be loaded.

What is normally done is that everything is created and saved in the Quake 4 directory structure. The new files are compressed into a single file using winzip and that compressed file is renamed with a .pk4 extension. With this pk4 file in the base folder, it will be read by the game.

So you still have to install something to the Quake 4 game to play it, but it can be contained in a single file.

Thanks for the info. Can you have it it extract the zip file to the folder that it needs to go in? So that it can be ran without using the control panel and having to type in the map?? again thanks for all your help!! Rock on!!!!

yup. You want to change the target of your launch shortcut or you want to setup a separate .bat file.

shortcut:
- create a desktop shortcut for Quake 4
- right-click and select properties
- edit the target to read something similar to
"C:\Program Files\id Software\Quake 4\Quake4.exe" +disconnect +map game/mapname
- launch it to run the map

bat file:
- open notepad
- add this line of text:
quake4.exe +map game\mapname
- save as mapname.bat in the folder:
C:\Program Files\id Software\Quake 4
(otherwise you need to more clearly specify the path of quake4.exe)
- launch it to run the map

This assumes the map is in the maps/game folder and is titled mapname.
