i need advice on a new graphics card, currently have a 128 mb 9800 pro, i will be getting a 500w psu soon, i have 2.8 ghz p4 cpu, 1g ram so yeah

any suggestions? i'm debating between the 6800 GT (agp) and the x850XT (agp), but i don't know what to do. if you have any suggestions, please make sure the card is AGP, as i don't have any PCIx16 slots. [ohwell]

I think you should push for a motherboard that has PCI and is compatible with your existing hardware so you can use it on the new motherboard, and get a PCI card. Better, I think, to make large leaps in upgrades than small steps.

games i play:

bf2, and sf
css
cod2
cod1 and uo
sometimes doom 3, maybe scct

i have fps problems with bf2, bf2:sf and cod2, i have to run cod2 on dx7 so i can get good fps, otherwise if it was on dx9 i would have to have it on 800x600, bilinear, low everything, etc.. and i only get around 30-60 fps on scct (the SP)

We have 2 nearly identical PCs here, one runs ATI 850 Pro one has Nvidia 6600GT, both AGP. There is no reasonable difference between the two as far as "gameplay" goes....they both are adequately fast on COD2 unless DirectX9 is enabled.

which one is faster on DX9, and what settings can you have each one of them on when running DX9?

I'd follow along with EvilHobo's suggestion and just overhaul your setup. It'll be more cost effecitve in the long run. Spend a few extra hundred dollars and stay on the tip of the wave, instead of paying a couple hundred to jump into the back of it.
