Ok, this is probably a bit early (Or is it?) but I plan on getting in the Gaming Industry when I am old enough to get a job, I am taking basic game building courses next year and 3D Modelling, but when I see ad's for jobs around sites, they always ask for you to have 2 - 3 years experience. So where would you start first?

I mean nobody ever starts experienced.

I'm just curious for the time being anyway.

im not in the industry but i have been told i could get a job by some1 who works for a small company. hell, he even said i could come work for his company problery if i got all my work together as a portfolio.

these are my skills/ acheivement as a summary to date:

released 2 maps for CoD, and 1 for MoH:AA
Model to a resonable level in Maya and Milkshape 3D
UV map in Maya
Pretty damn sexy in photoshop (i.e. i skin, texture and do some 2d art).

if u wanna get into the industry mapping is not high on the piority list. modeling is far more important and just as fun. Learn Maya or 3ds Max idealy. Animation is my next thing to learn then after than some hard core C or C++

but im going into the army to live (imo) a far more exciting life ^^

yeah i read that site. good stuff there. he obviously is a wise guy to take advice from.

the 1 thing i would add to that is to get 1 project under ur sleave. dont have to be computer related. could be a short film, a short animation. something thats innoative and cooperative alike. Its not hard to make a couple maps. Nor a small mod. Do something orignal, or rather, do something that is interesting and you can show to any1 on the net in a video form... if its a level then make a fraps movie showing off ambients and atmosphere. I dunno... its just a good way to get u noticed and looks a hell of alot better in a portfolio than a bunch of jpegs.
