Hey guys,

Is there a tut on placing buildings and models on uneven terrain? I had a look but couldnt find anything....

And also when placing buildings on top of terrain do you just place it on top or do you need to cut the shape of the building out of the terrain?

Thanks in advance [thumbs_up]

There is no tutorial for placing buildings on uneven terrain but i would suggest placing the building where you want it and editing the terrain around it so it looks good... as for cutting the terrain, its up to you... I would personally advise on doing so but it can be very tricky if the building is skewed or rotated in any way...

Hope this helps! [sniper]

I am haveing this problem at the moment, i have found it hard to change my terrain just to fit in a house but if you make a big building like a large warehouse, castle or garrison i would too advise on cutting the terrain.

thanks for the quick reply Tim,

So just so I have this clear in my head, I have terrain already made so I just place the building on top of the terrain then manipulate the ground around it.

So its ok to have the bottom of the building and the top of the terrain together?

It can be done, but it's not recommended.

First you'll get an error in your compile about the lighting. Because the terrain will be blocked by the building it can't recieve any light.

Second. The engine will draw the ground eventhough it's not visible.

so cutting it away from under your buildings is the best option.

Ok, so If I hovver the building just above where its going to be placed then draw a brush the size of the bottom of the building and use it with the CSG subtract tool to cut out the hole then lower the building into place, that would be how to do it?

Does everything under the map get caulked?

Sorry for being thick! [rolleyes]

Can you stick blocks through terrain mesh?

I have stuck a stair case on the edge of a cliff with most going through.

Donjayok, do NOT use the .csg functions.

Cut the patch using Patch -> Split.
As for the caulk. you'll have to do that yourself.

X-pence, yes, you can, though I advice you not to, because of the possible errors.
