Quick question. For fake buildings around the outside of your map can or should thos be detail brushes? If so is this because no portals need to be created since there is no play in these areas?

Yes. However... if this is for CoD2 I would wait with doing that until you imported ot into the CoD2 Radiant. You will never know what they changed.

Right. That kind of sucks I have tons of detail brushes.

Just select your whole map and press "Shift-Ctrl-S". This will make the whole map structural again.

Or you could just leave them detailed.

Or make two versions.. one with already detailed stuff in, and one with everything structural in case the detailed stuff can't be opened in CoD2 Radiant.
