Hey

I've recently payed for a new garphics card (I'm very happy with it :) ) but it has seemed to stop me playkng DVD's...well any from of video actually.

Since I installed the new card and try to run a DVD or watch a compressed video the computer chugs down and just stops responding. I know theres something that I need to set in my advanced graphic card settings but don't know what. I did go into my troubleshoot and turned my graphics card setting right down which seemed to fix the problem...slightly as the video still stops and starts pretty badly.

Any ideas? Like I said it's just something must do in the advanced settings but haven't a clue what.

hmmm... It's possible your graphics driver needs to be updated.

What card do you have?

Also, what are you trying to view the DVD's in? PowerDVD, WMP etc...

Well the card's drivers are the most upto date drivers for the card. the card is a Geforce FX6600. My old Geforce 5600 worked just spiffing so I just have no idea.

and it does the same in PowerDVD, WinDVD, WMP and the quicktime video player...basically...everything

Oh and I just noticed the teamspeak server, nice...does it get used?

Ok, first thing i would check is your power supply, inside your computer the power box will have its size displayed on the side (300W, 400W etc..)

Then have a look on your graphics card maual for the amount of power needed for the card to run and make sure you power supply has the same or more.

What CPU are you running?

well it's a 400w I can tell you that without openning the computer up, thats wel enough power to keep everything running. My mate had the same problem but fixed it in his advanced display settings but can't remember what he did thats why I think it's more that side than the hardwear side

I know this "might" not fix your problem, but i have exact same graphics card and had silmar problems. Now the only way i could get over it was to install some "omega" nivdia drivers, the only problem this caused was not allowing CoDUO Radient to open due to Open GL, but luckily my brother was back from Uni, and sorted out stuff in the registy which sorted both problems.

Anyway if you wanna have a go with these Nvidia drivers heres the link- http://www.omegadrivers.net/

Make sure directx is the latest version (9C). I also have a 6600gt with no issues.

You might try uninstalling/reinstalling one of the DVD apps. to see if it overwrites a setting and fixes the issue.

You can also uninstall the video drivers before installing the new drivers. (Uninistall the card and allow PnP to find it and automatically reinstall everything).

Sounds like it could be a hardware acceleration setting. Play with that first.

Final note, you can run dxdiag from a command line and compare notes to your mate with the same setup.

sadly theres no way of seing his computer as he lives in a different part of the country and it was along time ago.

I loaded the DVD and decided to sit there and see what happened. After a long wait I got an windows error window. It read:

Possible device failure.

The driver for the display was unable to complete the drawing operation.

I've downloaded the latest drivers of Nvidia and still the same anyone have another idea? I know it's something pretty small
